About this property

Lovely self-contained hillside village Annexe, dog friendly.

Ford End Annexe is private, cosy, and self-contained, with its own entrance. The stone-built 18th century converted stable accommodation is at the edge of the pretty, hillside village of Ampleforth, just a short walk from the two excellent village pubs and a delicious coffee house. Located on the edge of the North York Moors National Park & Howardian Hills AONB the area is fantastic for walks.

Alternatively, it is a short drive to the market towns of Helmsley, Malton, and Thirsk, or 20 miles to the City of York. We are also near several fascinating historic sites such as Byland Abbey, Helmsley Castle, Rievaulx Abbey, and Castle Howard to name a few.

Or you could take a stunning drive across the North York Moors to one of the seaside towns of Whitby or Scarborough or several enchanting, more secluded coastal villages.

You are welcome to bring your well-behaved dog!

Sweet apartment in Ampleforth
This space has everything you need for one or two people We were pleasantly surprised by the unique idea of breakfast supplied in the apartment for the days we were there. We were provided a selection of cereal, bread, jams, milk, yogurt, tea and coffee from which to choose. It was perfect for us since we like to get out early to hike. The space is compact but comfortable and clean. There are a couple of pubs within walking distance and the village is in a hood location for visits to Thirsk and York.

Perfect holiday base
We had a lovely time staying at The Annex for a few days. The property was equipped with everything we could possible need, the owners has thought of everything and the little touches were much appreciated. The location was perfect, situated in a gorgeous little village and within easy reach of other equally gorgeous and interesting areas to explore. Would highly recommend.

renting was easy though the site home away. Only 1 pub was open part time. 4 days a week the 2nd and the coffee shop were still closed. Nice quiet location. Would benefit visitors if details of amenities were provided. The local council does not appear to be proactive with recycling. WiFi in the property is good. Phone signal only available at the end of the drive. Shower is good but some people would appreciate a hand rail for support. If the tap is to be replaced i suggest ones operated by leavers. Please mark the back door as emergency exit and advise patrons accordingly.

I moved to Ampleforth in 2004 with my husband, toddler, and baby. Over the next few years my husband renovated our house, we had our third child, and opened the Annexe! We now also have an adjoining three-bedroom holiday cottage. I have worked as a photographer since 2013.

Why they chose this property

We fell for this traditional stone house and cottage owing to their location on the edge of a traditional hillside village in the beautiful, protected countryside of the North York Moors National Park and Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The buildings have many of their original features, allowing us to retain a sense of what was here for the past three hundred years.

What makes this property unique

We love living in the hills, and that we can walk so easily to two great pubs in the village. We are also lucky to have a brilliant Village Shop with Post Office, a dangerously delicious independent coffee house, and lovely walks on our doorstep.
