A découvrir!

About the host

Hosted by Greg Walls

Host profile image
Although an Australian, my mothers family are originally from Burgundy where they are still making fabulous wine, and thus my attraction to France .
I first traveled to France in 1974 which opened my eyes to beautiful way of life and excited a passion for food and wine.
Then in 1993 with 4 friends we purchased a small cottage in tiny village of 5 dwellings and then in 2003 purchased the larger house next door "les Cayrouses" just for us.
We've been visiting each year since and it still has the same attraction after all these years, we love it and the region, it's like stepping back in time to a more gentle pace.

Why they chose this property

Les Cayrouses has a wonderful ambiance, built of stone from the surrounding properties with a slate roof typical of the regional style. Although parts of the building are up to 300 years old it has been restored to retain the same appearance and atmosphere.
There's plenty of space with 4 bedrooms all with bathroom facilities, big areas for relaxing and own space, and a wonderful terrace and pool area.
The small village is so peaceful with only one lived in residence, and the views are wonderful.
In France la Vallee du Lot is well known but little visited, it's a place to travel to, not to drive through on any tourist route.
The nearby villages are small and historic.
8 km west is the enchanting Entraygues with its 12th century chateau, where the Lot and Truyere rivers converge, good cafes on the square, restaurants, excellent boucheries and boulangeries.
To the east another 8 kms is beautiful and historic Estaing a designated "plus beau village de France " .

What makes this property unique

La Valle du Lot, Aveyron and Auvergne regions are renown for wonderful food and cooking, incredibly picturesque villages and scenery.
There are many wonderful restaurants nearby form traditional bistros to elegant restaurants, as well as fine dining of 1 to 3 star Michelin all within 1 hours drive.
In the mid 1900s many of the regional cooks left for Paris in search of work, where they established the bistro style of cooking, how fortunate for the Parisienne.
However the best meal experience is on the terrace at les Cayrouses intoxicated by the wonderful panorama and atmosphere. Charcuterie and salad lunch with a Rose, or a magnificent dinner of BBQ Aubrac beef, or confit de canard with a local Cabernet Franc.
