About this property

An Cealla-A newly renovated luxury cottage sleeps 2-4 with sauna in Glendale

An Cealla is a beautifully renovated new to the market 2 bedroom traditional cottage with sauna located in Glendale, Isle of Skye. The village of Glendale is one of the most picturesque destinations on Skye, located on the north west coast of the Island. There is an abundance of wildlife, and plenty of local attractions such as the Neist Point Lighthouse, Dunvegan Castle, and Coral Beach to name just a few.

The local shop and cafe (Cafe Lephin) is 1.5 miles away, and the nearest pub can be found in Dunvegan which is approx 8 miles away. Whether it's an active outdoor holiday you are looking for, or a peaceful, relaxing trip you’d prefer- Skye is the perfect destination as it caters for all.

The cottage itself sits in an elevated position with stunning views overlooking Loch Pooltiel- you can also see the Isle of Harris just across the water. There is plenty of parking available, and what make this cottage stand out is from others is it's private setting. You will regularly see buzzards, sea eagles and plenty of Stag and Deer from the front door. Usually they can be spotted in early morning and evenings. It’s a truly amazing sight.

Upstairs in the cottage you will find the two welcoming bedrooms with very comfy beds! The master bedroom has a super-king size bed, and the second bedroom has twin beds in it. There is also a bathroom with underfloor heating located upstairs in the property with a beautiful big bath sitting in front of the window, so you can take in the views while winding down after a busy day.

Downstairs in the cottage there is a good sized living room with a multi-fuel stove, DVD player and a 49" TV with Freesat channels (there is also a good selection of DVD's in the TV unit). There is also a spacious open plan dining room and kitchen area. There is another multi-fuel stove in the dining room to give you a lovely cosy feel when you sit down for your evening meal. In here you will also find a selection of books, board games, radio and an iPhone docking station. We will leave one bucket of coal for you to use during your stay (more coal can be purchased locally), but there are plenty of logs in the log store at the back of the house for your use. In the kitchen there is a dish washer, electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge freezer. It is a fully equipped kitchen, and hopefully we have thought of everything you will need during your stay. Downstairs in the property we also have a large double shower unit and toilet room which has underfloor heating.

With a separate entrance, you will find the utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer, sink, and also a seating area and sauna. The sauna is a great way to relax after a busy day of sight-seeing and walking. Please always read the instructions for the sauna before use, and never take food or drink in to it please! We don't supply dressing gowns at the cottage, so please remember to take some for your visit. Outside at the front of the cottage is a seating area, so feel free to have breakfast, lunch and dinner outside if you feel like it!

The property has electric heating and, and as mentioned, has two multi fuel stoves (please use the fireguards if younger children are with you during your stay). The cottage is filled with mahogany furniture throughout and beautifully decorated using soft colours, original oil paintings and Harris Tweed and velvet soft furnishings. High quality bedding and towels are also supplied for you to use during your stay, as are disposable slippers, hot water bottles, hairdryers, and iron and ironing board.

Unfortunately we do not cater for young children at the property, so no high chair or cots are available. We do allow one small well behaved pet dog at the cottage with a supplement charge, but we ask that your pet not be allowed upstairs in the cottage or on any of the furniture.

We operate a key-safe arrival system allowing guests to enter the cottage anytime from 4 pm on Saturday, and vacating by 11 am or your leaving day.

An Cealla is an absolutely stunning holiday cottage with offers privacy and breathtaking views. We are sure you will have a wonderful stay!

As this is a new to the market property, we haven’t had it star rated yet, but we can guarantee that everything is of the highest quality- you will not be disappointed!
Professional photos will be on the site at the end of March.

Our favourite property
We had a wonderful time at An Cealla over the Easter holidays. Of all the properties we've stayed in over the years across Europe, we think it might just be the best of the lot. Clearly so much thought and care has gone in to making this a true luxury home from home experience. Everything we needed was on hand and all the extra touches, from the fires being ready to go on arrival to the welcome gifts (both for us and for the dog!) made such a difference. We didn't have the best of the weather whilst there (not that we returned home to Scotland for the weather of course!) but being able to cozy up in the snug with the fire on of a grey and wet evening and look out over the hills and the water as darkness fell was perfect. We'd 100% recommend An Cealla to anyone considering staying here, just brilliant.

Very special place indeed
While the house is quite a bit to one side of the Isle of Skye, the location is well worth it. We had great weather. The view from the from the front of the house is spectacular and the view out the back is pretty nice also. The houses here are spaced hundreds of yards apart at least. The town of Glendale has no gas station - fill up in Dunvegan if you must and very few shops. There are sheep EVERYWHERE, as in: on the roads. You can't go very fast, though, because it's all single-track roads with passing places. Quite the culture shock for Americans. The pace around the Isle of Skye is pretty relaxed. You have to drive to get anywhere or see anything; nothing is close. And you can't drive fast. So, just plan to take awhile to see your places. The property is quite old but it is VERY well maintained and its interior is up to modern standards. All bedrooms are upstairs and are roomy enough - pretty nice overall. The bathrooms have heated floors which are wonderful. The bath upstairs has a HUGE bathtub, but no shower. Very nice potential for a romantic night in. Downstairs bath has a very nice shower however. Downstairs has a complete kitchen - one of the best we've seen in a long time. Eating area is spacious. They even have a separate room with washer, dryer and sauna. We really loved staying here even though it's out of the way.

The best part of our European vacation was our stay here!!
We selected this property for several reasons. First, its location is close to the Hebrides island. We took the ferry from Uig and spent a night on the Isle of Harris. If you want to go somewhere to speak Scottish Gaelic, and see stunning landscapes and beaches, this is the place. Secondly, the property is beautiful! The views from the house are amazing. It is peaceful and quiet. The king-sized bed in the upstairs main room was so comfortable with soft linens. The other top-floor bedroom has two twin beds. The kitchen is fully equipped and even inspired us to cook. The two bathrooms (one on each floor) are modern, beautiful and have heated floors. You can lounge in the massive tub upstairs while looking out at the water and green fields flecked with sheep. This owner made us feel pampered, with a welcome basket of goodies, large bath sheets, beautiful furnishings and artwork. Even the attached laundry room is beautiful and has modern washer and dryer. Glendale is a small, tight knit community. We so enjoyed meeting the people at the Tuesday craft faire, the Skye Weavers, and close by in Dunvegan at the tiny Waterside Cafe Bistro and Misty pizza/fish & chips/gelato. Thank you Ann for such a memorable vacation. It was worth the drive from Edinburgh, learning how to drive on the left side of the tiny roads. We did get used to using the pull-outs on the roads as we waved at the passing cars. We even had a few favorite sheep that we looked for. We want to return.
