If you need a place to be away I recommend highly. The cottages super clean and the hiking trails wonderful as well as the rocking chairs on the front porch. On the only hiking trail (there are others on the property) we came to a place that had a park bench overlooking the valley. A beautiful scene of God's creation.
The touch of gathering your own eggs from the kitchen coop was great. Went to the the local Brookshires Bros. (five minutes away) and bought sausage to go with the eggs. The owner also leaves pancake mix and syrup if you like.
The book Sherry has left in the cottage about all the things to do close by was very helpful.
Looking forward to our next visit.
So much thought and detail was placed into the property that made it a perfect and peaceful getaway. Every morning my husband and I would take an hour long hike through a different part of the property, then make our way to chicken coop for fresh eggs for breakfast. We highly recommend Los Olivos Market in Wimberley for the best adult frozen beverages and The Shady Llama was a fun visit. We did antiquing in Blanco and stopped by Oro Bianco for delicious gelato, cheeses and cured meats. We will definitely stay again. Thanks for being great hosts!
The property was absolutely amazing and the owners were very nice and accommodating. I will definitely be going back

Clean, fresh, well maintained. The folks there put a lot of thought into making our stay as comfortable and stress-free as possible. We enjoyed our stay, and would recommend this to others looking for a well-managed property.
We had a wedding to attend in the area and are so glad we chose this cute cabin. A little out of the way, but perfect if you want a balance of staying close, yet far away at the same time. We'll be back!
Cute, clean and great communication. We had some unusual circumstances come up and our hosts were more than happy to accommodate. The cottages have everything you need and more.

The attention to every detail of comfort was outstanding. Luxurious bedding to Coffee on the porch in rocking chairs. Scenic walks around the property and a chicken coop!
Quaint decor to wine and cheese. Emailed a list of activities and restaurants in the surrounding areas. Nothing could compare! BRAVO Sherry and Gary! Excited to return!

Great Stay!
The cabin was clean and beautiful. The setting was peaceful, and the owners left many thoughtful touches including a bottle of wine and pancakes for breakfast. I would recommend this place to anyone. Also, the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in!

About the host
Hosted by Sherry McKinley
Gary and Sherry spend most of their time at Canyon Peaks Ranch, where they manage the land, wildlife, and 4 guest cottages. Gary is a retired Navy Commander who chose a second career at Brinks Home Security before finally "retiring" once and for all to the Texas Hill Country. Sherry founded The Newsletter Company in Dallas in 1981 and is easing her way into retirement.
Why We Chose This Property: Growing up in Houston, Sherry vacationed in the Hill Country, enjoying the cool springs in summer and festivals like Wurstfest in the fall. During four years at UT, she explored the Hill Country towns from Wimberley to Luckenbach and all points in between. One of the most scenic views in all of the Hill Country is a stretch of FM 32 nicknamed "The Devil's Backbone" because of its winding curves and spectacular views. Gary & Sherry were frequent visitors to the area, and always dreamed of retiring in the Hill Country. When a ranch came up for sale in this choice spot, we bought the property and began building!
What makes our cottages different? The cottages are architecturally unique, a mixture of old and new with a focus on beautiful architectural pieces from the past. Sherry's passion is restoring historic structures, including a 100-year-old office building in Downtown Dallas and a home in the State-Thomas Historic district that dated back to the 1880s. You'll pass by an old blue Victorian house at the entrance on FM 32, which we moved from Austin in 2016.

What makes this property unique
The cottages are architecturally unique, a mixture of old and new with focus on beautiful architectural pieces from the past. Sherry's passion is restoring historic structures, including an office building in Downtown Dallas and a home in the State-Thomas Historic district that dated back to the 1880's. You'll pass by an old blue Victorian house at the entrance on FM 32, which we moved from Austin in 2016 and are in the process of restoring for commercial use. When historic structures can't be found, Sherry builds new construction with architectural pieces from the past. The framing and "bones" of the cottages are new material, and the finishing touches include vintage pine shiplap floors, vintage windows with weights and "float glass", interesting divided light doors, all of which flood the cottages with light. Make no mistake: these are not dark and dingy cabins in the woods! They are four colorful cottages on 24 acres with walking trails and a community fire pit. It's a place to enjoy nature, kick back and relax, in the comfort of your own little cottage with all the comforts of home. You’ll enjoy the easy access to major roads, with a private, secluded, quiet country experience. Pick up eggs from the chicken coop and make your morning breakfast, or just enjoy a cup of coffee on the front porch as you relax and watch the wildlife.
