El Nogal, Self catering in traditional cortijo with stunning views in Andalucia

There are two tastefully decorated apartments - "Las Estrellas" and "El Nogal" each with two double/twin bedrooms, fully appointed private kitchen/diner, family bathroom and living room and private terrace for dining and sunbathing; plus a shared outdoor pool and further communal terraces. Guests can benefit from the flexibility of renting both apartments if you have a larger group of family or friends.

Due to our mountainside location, we enjoy stunning and wide ranging views of Andalucian countryside complete with olive groves, overlooking the village of Villanueva del Trabuco.

We are lucky to live in this stunning area of Andalucia in Spain. We love the flexibility it provides, depending on your mood; you can either chill in the sun (at the villa, at the nearby lakes or beach) or you can be more active – exploring the traditional white towns and cosmopolitan cities – or go further and get energetic with walking, biking, horse-riding or skiing.

Your safety is very important to us. Due to our beautiful mountain-side location, there are steps up to each apartment and from the pool area to each apartment and their private terraces. Families with very young children, or clients with mobility requirements are reminded of this before booking and to take precautions during their holiday.

Absolutely Amazing

Simply the most magical and relaxing experience you could wish to have on a family holiday. Firstly, Dave and Emma are amazing hosts and from booking through to check out they were fantastic. The Villa itself had everything we needed during our stay, it is spotlessly clean and serves as a wonderful base, it also had an amazing welcome pack on arrival. The pool area and terraces are pure relaxation with the most unbelievable views, at night the area is magically lit up and really is beautiful. We can't recommend this villa enough, it's a very easy drive from the airport and being a bit further inland you see more of traditional Spanish life.

Stunning Surroundings

The 1st thing that hits you is the truly stunning location and how the property owners Dave and Emma show this beauty by providing the renter with amazing terraced areas for seating and enjoying the outside ...topped of with a great swimming pool, we had sunsets and views galour! Inside the little house you have everything you need for the small amount of time you end up inside! Our welcome pack appreciated after a long drive! Thank you to Dave and Emma for being great hosts. Would recommend highly if you love nature and being away from the hustle bustle of life.

The property was immaculate both inside and out, lovely terraces and fantastic pool area.

I stayed for a week with my wife and two daughters. Firstly... what an amazing location, mountains rising up behind and majestic views of olive groves and hills to the front.There's a quiet lane at the front where we enjoyed walks to the '100 pipes' and beyond, often seeing deer scampering over the rocks. The pool area is great for sunbathing and generally 'chilling out', our girls loved their evening swims as the sun went down. The terrace above the pool was so peaceful once the swimming finished, enjoying a glass of red wine as the sun set over the distant hills was sublime. The surrounding area has so much to offer too, Granada is within easy reach, we enjoyed the town of Archidona with it's fantastic plaza and great restaurants. We also ventured up to the reservoir at Iznajar, great for beach activities, pedalos/kayaks etc, as well as fantastic scenery. On our last day we spent a few hours in Nerja to visit the shops, it's only just over an hour away and an easy drive. All in all we can't recommend this place enough, great for peaceful days and evenings, with the potential to explore further afield. Not forgetting the hosts Dave and Emma, they couldn't have been nicer, always helpful and really made us feel that the place was ours for the week. Fantastic times, wonderful memories, hopefully we'll return one day. 😀😀👍👍👍

Ganz tolle Unterkunft in altem Bauernhaus mit großem Pool und schönem Garten. Sehr sauber. Liebevoll dekoriert. Tolle Gastgeber mit vielen Tipps und einem großen Willkommenspaket. Besser geht es nicht. Zentrale Lage für Ausflüge nach Granada, zu den Stränden und zum Wandern. Wir kommen gern noch mal wieder.

Incredibly special gem

Wow! What a place. Never imagined it would be so amazing. The property is built into the mountainside. We had visits from two baby deer and their mother. Lovely to hear the tinkling bells of the goats in the evening as they make their way into the hills. The sunsets were spectacular. The terraces are so lovely and a choice of three! No one else was staying while we were there so we didn't need to share the pool and shared terrace area but really don't think that would be an issue. The apartment is lovely and just what we needed. Cafetiere, nice coffee and welcome pack including beer, wine, milk etc so you can just relax the first day you get there. The shower can be a little tricky but really was not an issue. We did bump our heads a few times on low doorways but soon learnt our lesson. In no way did this detract from this idyllic place. Dave and Emma were spectacular hosts who clearly love their home and there is great attention to detail looking after this little gem. Villanueva del Trabuco is on your doorstep - drive the back way for a beautiful view. We loved all the places on the square there, especially bar fergoli - pork in gravy is out of this world and the calamari. No one speaks English so take your phrase book. It was a great way to communicate and we made some lovely friends. Bar Picasso in Archidona was wonderful and the waiter so nice. Just ask him what he recommends. Our 3 year old daughter adored the pool and bent Dave 's ear on more than one occasion. He was so patient with her. I cannot recommend it enough! Thank you Dave and Emma. Xx

Peaceful and quiet location in Andalusian style

We stayed at el Nogal with our two boys of 7 and 9. The location of El Nogal is superb as you enjoy the tree shadow for breakfasts and lunches and are close to the shared terrace with the Andalusian-decorated summer lounge with view on the countryside and swimming pool. Dinners on the terrace were a bit hot, but only because we had early dinners for the kids. Once the sun is down, you enjoy a cooler evening. Given the location is located 1000 m high, nights are not too warm. The flat is nicely decorated, quite spacious (except for the dining room which obviously you won’t need if you come over for summer), and incredibly well furnished and equipped (there are vans in all rooms). A weekly cleaning is provided (also for linen and towels) which is very nice. Dave and Emma are lovely hosts, available if needed and very caring (we had one child suffering from sun allergy on an evening and Emma brought us some medicine before we could go to the pharmacy the next morning). Both locations EL Nogal and Las Estrellas are well distant one from each other, so you enjoy complete privacy from your own terrace with no vis-à-vis. The owner's house is located in the middle, between Las Estrellas and El Nogal. Emma and Dave are really flexible as well in terms of arrival and departure days, which makes it easy when you depend on flight schedule! A location we recommend!

Wonderful Holiday Apartments

Really well kitted-out and designed and faithful to descriptions. Thoughtful welcome basket ready for our arrival in the evening: water, juice, milk, cereals, crisps, nuts and a bottle of cold white wine. Also plenty of UK adapter plugs, reliable WiFi with a speaker to connect to, inflatables and other pool toys, and nightlights in the children's room. Bedrooms and bathroom are big with plenty of storage space. Everything is spotless and the sheets smelt really lovely. The building is full of character with lots of nooks and alcoves, but tastefully done and beautiful inside and out. There are terraces to sit at, and the views and sunsets are stunning. We didn't use any insect repellent there (end of May) and didn't get bitten at all. We had a fantastic city day in Malaga and a beach day in Marbella during our stay. There are woods next to the apartment, and our children went horse-riding nearby too and loved it. The pool is great. We could easily have stayed for a fortnight, so plan to next time. Or if we can manage it, a weekend break without the kids. It's a very romantic place, with the mountain towering up behind the apartments and the starry skies. Emma and Dave are good hosts: they're close-by and knowledgeable when you need them, but we still felt like we had the place to ourselves. The local village is great for restaurants and cafes and there are plenty of shops if you did forget to pack something. All the people we met were really friendly and we totally fell in love with the place.

Perfect Family Break!

“From start to finish, my family and I had a superb time. The property was clean, tastefully decorated and cool in the heat. The pool was a joy for us all, particularly the children. The views are stunning. Set into the mountain, we marvelled at the scenery all around, which culminated each day in absolutely glorious sunsets. The track/road running up to the property gets about five cars passing per day, which allowed us to fully unwind and enjoy the birds and wildlife in the area. We can’t speak highly enough of the place. My youngest daughter refused to leave the pool when it was time to head to the airport, which in spirit was a sentiment we all agreed with. We will definitely be back as it feels impossible to tire of the relaxing and recharging atmosphere, and there is so much to do and see in the area you can be guaranteed of a new experience each time. We really enjoyed Malaga and had a good drive to Marbella for some beach time. Thank you to Emma and Dave for creating the perfect atmosphere. We’ll see you again soon!!”

Originally from Manchester in UK, Dave has travelled the world touring as a professional musician and more latterly re-trained as an electrical engineer. Dave’s sense of adventure, fun and travel experience makes him a great host, and he also has an on-site music studio to offer our customers additional activities.
Originally from Lincolnshire in UK, Emma’s background in marketing and a penchant for incredibly hot weather and sandy beaches led her and Dave to make the decision to settle in Andalucia and open a business close to their hearts.
