Ploče is one of Dubrovnik's most prestigious and picturesque neighborhoods, located just east of the Old Town. Known for its stunning views of the Adriatic Sea, the historic city walls, and Lokrum Island, Ploče provides a peaceful retreat while remaining just a short walk from the city’s top attractions.
Historically, Ploče served as the eastern entrance to the Old Town, with its wooden drawbridge that once protected the city by being raised at night. Today, it’s home to some of Dubrovnik’s most luxurious hotels, such as the Excelsior, Argentina, and Villa Dubrovnik, along with two of the city’s most beautiful beaches—Banje and St. Jacob—which offer breathtaking views of the Old Town, city walls, and harbor.
The famous Dubrovnik cable car is also located here, whisking visitors up to Mount Srđ for a panoramic view of the Old Town, the Adriatic Sea, and stunning sunsets. At the summit, you can relax at the hilltop restaurant, enjoying a meal or drink while soaking in the view.
