Mljet is the southernmost and easternmost of the larger Adriatic Islands of Dalmatia. It is the greenest Island with Mediterranean vegetation, a clear and clean sea, and a gentle sandy shoreline. National Park spreads on the western side of the Island (for over 54km2) and offers shady walking or cycling tracks, ancient ruins, and saltwater lakes. Entrances to NP Mljet is in Polače and Pomena. The main places are Pomena, Polače, and Sobra and in those places, you may find supermarkets, ATMs, restaurants, travel agencies, souvenir shops, etc...Island is regularly connected with Dubrovnik with a ferry from Dubrovnik or Korčula as well as a car ferry connection with Pelješac Peninsula on the Croatian mainland.Being located just over 15 minutes walk to Malo Jezero (Small Lake) of Mljet National Park, the village is the main entry point to the Park. Nowadays it has its hotel, a couple of restaurants and coffee bars, grocery and souvenir shops, agencies etc… As a bay, is a very safe place for anchorage, being sheltered by a tiny island of Pomestak, which acts as a local naturist beach too.Pomena is also a port where one will arrive if you take a day trip to Mljet by fast ferry from Korcula, Hvar, Split, Brac, or Dubrovnik.

Major-league holiday!

We were very close to the national park entrance. The park is beautiful. Loved the waterside restaurants. The accommodation was good particularly each bedroom having ensuite facilites. The over ripe grapes on the vine next to the balcony attracted a lot of wasps. Be aware that there are a lot of steps up to the accommodation.

High-end vacation!

Loved the location. The apartment was very simple and small but it had everything we needed. The family who runs it are very kind. Slavica, who we communicated with, was amazing. Very responsive. Wifi rarely worked. No restaurant on site but many close by to choose from.

Brilliant service!

This was the perfect place to explore the national park without a car. We took the passenger ferry to the island and it was less than a 2 minute walk to the apartment. There is a good restaurant just two doors down and a small market very close. The trail to the lakes is just behind the house and you can also walk or bike (rent at the ferry terminal) to the WWII tunnel, which was cool. The apartment is close to others but feels private. It’s tiny but there is a nice terrace dining area that adds to the living space and each bedroom has a private bath. A kind family runs the place and left us delicious cake when we checked in, and brought produce from the garden during our stay. Their goats and chickens are fun to hear and there were some cute turtles in the garden. Consider bringing food from the mainland, since restaurants on the island are expensive and the only tiny market closes at 3 pm. You can get by with what is available though, and the kitchen is equipped to cook a full meal.
