We really don't like to give poor reviews so we will start by saying that the location of this apartment was wonderful and we enjoyed some of the quirky aspects of its design. Nevertheless, we hope that pointing out some of this place's current shortcomings might help the owner and manager realize the great potential it has. When we arrived, we were struck by how unkempt the garden entrance to the apartment was compared to the photos in the ad. The patios on the main level and on the balcony off two bedrooms could be the star features. Indeed the photos make them look so. Some better gardening and more careful maintenance would go a long way. When we went in, we found the furnishing of the kitchen was not adequate. There was only one wine glass (in Italy!). There were no basic supplies like oil and vinegar, pepper and salt. We had to purchase glasses, a dish towel and laundry soap. When we tried to open our wine, we found the two supplied corkscrews broken. The photos of the apartment show bright, interesting rooms which they are but what should be noted is that there are many stairs and changes in levels throughout the place. It would be important for a potential renter to know this if they have mobility problems. The bathroom serving the first floor bedrooms is on the main floor which is frustrating because it means that the people using those bedrooms have to go downstairs and through the apartment to use their facility. Only one of the beds (on the second floor) is a permanent bed. The two on the first floor are pullout and not too comfortable. The whole apartment was clean but very sparsely furnished. The large walls need some bright hangings or posters to soften the large area. Getting in and out requires a bit of work - I mean, it IS Florence so eccentricity is expected. Nevertheless, there are five doors to be opened and then reclosed and locked on the way in and out. There is a neighbour who angrily admonished us when one of the gates was left open briefly as we brought our suitcases in. This same neighbour repeated his unfriendly reminder the next day even after we had properly closed and locked the gate. When we tried to contact the manager before we left to clear up unclear (and what seemed to us threatening) instructions on where to leave the keys but received no communication. Finally, we had great difficulty making our second payment through VRBO so we had to pay CleanB&B directly at the last minute.
