About this property
On the beach, a private pool, a house all to yourself.
The rare thing about Barefoot Bungalow is the privacy. You don't share a pool or the deck. You have the house, pool, yard and deck completely to yourself. Our Bungalow is located on the tranquil island of Vieques. Our three bedroom, 2 bath home is tastefully furnished in a relaxed, comfortable bungalow style. The property offers an array of amenities, including a pool for your use only, a deck overlooking the ocean, BBQ, washer and dryer, hammock and, of course, the beautiful blue sea a few steps from your doorstep. You can hear the crashing waves from your bedroom and still be surrounded by the tranquility of your own yard. Wake up in the morning and sit outside on your private patio, looking out over the waves at the islands of Culebra, Puerto Rico and on a clear day, St. Thomas, while you sip your coffee. Listen to the sounds of the surf breaking in the evening as the sun sets while you stroll in the sand looking for shells and sea glass, or lie peacefully swinging in the hammock.
Lounge by Pool: What can be more luxurious and refreshing than a dip in your own pool after a long day at the beach? Not much. Lounge in the sun, enjoy the lush tropical foliage, and maybe read a good book. Sit under the fountain and let the water splash over you. Watch the sea gulls and pelicans fly overhead and spot the iguana family that comes to feed on the hibiscus and sun on the wall. Take a night time dip and float on your back and gaze up at the stars.
Easy Living: Two of the things that our guests comment on most frequently are the great night's sleep they experience in our comfortable beds, and the luxurious sheets and towels we provide in abundance. We strive hard to make your experience the vacation you want it to be with a fully equipped kitchen (to help you prepare your fresh-caught seafood), air conditioning in all the rooms, and an outside dining area to enjoy the breeze off the ocean.
Note: Although we suffered some damage from Hurricane Maria, many of the island's inhabitants suffered much more. Three of the cottages next to us were totally destroyed. They are slowly trying to rebuild, and we applaud their positive attitudes and "can do" spirit. On the Island of Vieques, almost all of the cottages on the water, are located on the northern side of the island. Here the coral reef comes right up to the shore. These beaches including our are great for snorkeling, walking, and shelling and sea glass collecting. These are not the swimming beaches that Vieques is famous for. Those beaches are on the southern part of the island and are in protected parks for all to use. There are no beach houses on those beaches. On our beach swimming is possible where there is a break in the reef, but we like to swim at our favorite beaches like Caracas and Chiva on the south side.

About the host
Hosted by Michael Gordon
My husband, Mike grew up in the quiet town of Houlton, Maine but his family vacationed each year at Wells Beach, Maine. I grew up in Stratford, Connecticut where the beach was always 10 minutes away. We met in San Antonio, while we were each pursuing our individual careers. We both love the ocean and can't ever get enough of it.
Why they chose this property
Vieques has something to offer all beach lovers. I like quiet waters to wade in and Media Luna on Vieques is perfect for that. Mike likes to sit under the palms, drink an adult beverage while he listens to the waves, and Red Beach is perfect for that. My daughter and son-in-law love to snorkel and Green Beach offers hours of snorkeling adventures. The people of Vieques are great! The Malecon in Esperanza is fun!
What makes this property unique
The unique benefits of our bungalow are: 1) You have the whole house to yourself. 2) with a pool all to yourself, 3) on the beach 4) air conditioned through out 5) with a view of the ocean from the master bedroom and dining area 6)for less than $300 per night.
