About this property
Mare degli Angeli, Splendid Mediterranean Seaside Villa, Gardens, Pool, Almost Heaven
Perched on a cliff on the edge of the Mediterranean sea, the Villa degli Angeli gazes from Ansedonia at beautiful Monte Argentario and the Tuscan archipelago. It offers its privileged guests some of Italy’s most spectacular views, as well as a dream of a holiday villa to host 14 people in style and comfort in 7 gracious bedrooms and 7 modern bathrooms, plus a guest bathroom (price as shown is for 8 guests, and there is a supplement per person for more than 8). But comfort and style are only the beginning. The owners over generations have collected Roman and Medieval treasures which are placed unassumingly around the villa, its grounds, its spacious terraces and carefully tended gardens, to offer moments of pleasure to all who wander within.
In the house itself, you will find beautiful views through well-sited windows, a dining room for cooler days that seats 14 in style, and offers views of the sea, as well as a few select, fine modern paintings, and even a fireplace to take off a winter chill. The adjoining living room also offers magnificent sea and terrace views, comfortable seating, and again a fireplace for cooler nights. Add to that a second, more casual gathering spot, with panoramic views, perfect for multi generational families to divide and conquer. The kitchen has everything that you need, a large, professional gas stove, two ovens, a large fridge, a microwave, dishwasher, and a Nespresso coffee machine. Three hours of daily housekeeping are included. We are happy to arrange more if you organise with us ahead of time And, if you want even more space, ask us about the neighbouring house, which sleeps an additional eight people.
To make a real summer holiday, in July and August a Chef and housekeeper are included.
But, even more, Italian summers are about living outdoors, and the villa is sure to delight. Gardens and flowers abound, full of Mediterranean foliage. Exit to a terrace from most bedrooms, from the dining room, or the living rooms. Indoors moves outdoors, and everywhere you will find spacious terraces on multiple levels, all comfortably furnished. Then private stairs carved in the rock cliff lead down to the crystal blue sea, where you may swim and bathe to your heart’s delight. A large sun deck at sea level is your reward for the descent. Higher up, there is a vast salt water pool, also set into the cliff and with equally idyllic views. The pool area is of coursed furnished with a pergola with a dining table and a barbecue grill. Speaking of dining, amongst the simple pleasure of Italy are the freshest fish, tomatoes with true taste, medleys of fruits and vegetable, local mozzarella di buffalo, and of course, local Tuscan olive oil, and prize-winning wines.
While there, though you may want to do nothing, there are plenty of possible excursions to keep you busy. In Ansedonia, don’t miss the remains of the ancient city of Cosa, an archaeological site of international interest, included in UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The ruins of this ancient Roman city on the hill atop Ansedonia date back to 273 BC. In the summer, there are theatrical offerings here. Then walk or bike in the nearby pine forest and beachcomb the long beach (if you tire of swimming in the sea from your house!)
Of course, you are just a few kilometres from Argentario, with its Port towns of Orbetello, Porto Ercole, and Porto Santo Stefano. Enjoy the busy harbour life of the now sophisticated old fishing villages, where there is an abundance of choices of bars, restaurants, and nautical activities on offer. From these ports you can take a short boat ride to the islands of Giannutri and Giglio, where you can pass the day swimming, sightseeing and eating by the sea.
A bit further afield but less (or much less) than 40 kilometres, you can get plunge into the heart of the Tuscan Maremma. Do visit Capalbio (famous for the film festival in summer), Scansano (renowned for its Morellino wine and vineyards), Manciano, and Pitigliano, two charming Medieval hill towns with their own culture, the famous thermal baths of Saturnia, the extravagant Tarot Garden (park and architectural work of the famous French artist, Niki de Saint Phalle… If that’s not enough you can reach Siena in just over an hour, and Rome can be reached by car or train in an hour and 30 min.
This is a perfectly situated Villa for the holiday of your dreams.
Please note that pricing as shown is for up to 8 guests, and a supplement will be added for larger groups.
