Hydrangea is a luxury one bedroom holiday cottage on one level.
Originally a Cart Linhay, it was built some time in the Eighteenth Century. The conversion works were a labour of love and Hydrangea reflects that.
The floor is a mixture of African and Chinese slates and provide a palette of browns and greys and reds. Japonica is spacious (55sq. m.) and has a particularly lovely beamed "chapel like" living area with vaulted ceilings.
Hydrangea is a beautifully decorated, fully centrally heated and spacious cottage.
There is an open plan living, dining and kitchen area
The kitchen area is fully equipped (dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, integrated oven, ceramic hob, washer / dryer, crockery, cutlery, pans and glassware etc.)
The dining area has a reclaimed pine dining table and chairs.
The living area has one two seater and one three seated sofas, a coffee table, a 32" digital television with DVD player and a living flame electric stove to provide a social heart to the cottage,
The bedroom has a 5' double bed and ensuite shower room. The bedroom has bedside tables, a chest of drawers and a built in wardrobe.
Hydrangea looks out onto a small courtyard area shared with Japonica Cottage across the central stone garden within the larger courtyard formed by the cottages and Downe House out towards the Bristol Channel.
There is a dedicated seating area for Hydrangea with garden table and chairs.
Visitors have use of some seven acres of gardens, the gym, the spa and the reading room.
Toweling robes are provided for each adult visitor.
Garage parking is provided for all visitors' cars.
We have created the Cottages and have maintained them with a passion that has endured for more than twenty years.
The location is sensational: looking West over the Atlantic - next stop America - and North up to Lundy Island to the Welsh Coast beyond.
The Cottages, grouped around a large courtyard, reflect the men and women who created the original farm courtyard over the centuries.
Every cottage is a beautiful building and each has lovely features drawn from its history. During the conversion works we added to these features and know that some will be present in a hundred years time: the slate floors on the ground floor in every cottage, a mixture of Chinese and African slates, are fabulous; every staircase was built on site in pine by a craftsman working for us and are antiques of the future; many of the window cills are made of local slates and many have ancient oak lintels; the roofs of every cottage are reclaimed slate procured from reclamation yards around the county etc. etc.
Our objective is simple: we live at Downe and we wish every visitor to be delighted with their cottage.
We provide holiday accommodation that is:
Immaculately clean.
Warm whatever the weather.
Exceptionally spacious.
Well equipped so that each is truly " A Home from Home".
Beautiful to look at both internally and externally.
With well maintained, spacious grounds.
In addition there is a spacious and well equipped gym and spa of exceptional quality.
We welcome visitors and show them into their cottage; we show visitors around the Gym and Spa facilities; we are on hand to resolve any problem that might occur during the visit and we are there to say farewell at the end of the visit. We ensure that the cottage delivers everything that we promise.
You are treated as guests in our home.
