About this property
Farmhouse from 17th century with antique furniture and many flowers.
Le Pietraie is a stone-walled farmhouse first built in 1600's, surrounded by a wonderful garden full of many typical and rare plants and shrubs, lovely at all times of year. The house nestles in the beautiful Peacock Valley (Val di Pavone), encircled by fine woodlands, hills and meadows, and is like a terrace on the valley. The valley is home to a wide variety of animals, birds, butterflies and rare wild plants: snowdrops, hellebore, anemone, narcissus, cyclamen, wild orchids, primrose, brooms, wild cherry trees and arbutus unedo to name just a few. The Pietraia lies 300 m from the Peacock River (Pavone) where it is possible to bath, to swim, to make long walks in a wonderful canyon until you reach the confluence with the Cecina River. On our website you can see more photos of the garden, the Valley, the hills around Le Pietraie. The owners live on the first floor. They speak English,German, French and Italian. In case of health problems an English speaking family doctor is nearby.
PERGOLA is 50 m2, has a kitchen where you can eat, a bedroom with a double bed and a single sofabed, a Bathroom wuith Carrara marble and a terrace covered with vine near the kitchen with a teak wood table and chairs where you can eat.

Guest book: 2004: We had wonderful days cycling the many hills. active on the slow ascents. This is a very special place. B. Beerle , Anchorage, Alaska *** July 2006: We had an absolute great time staying at your place. You achieved a perfect combination of comfort and fine style, a superb mix of old and new at your property. We certainly like to return to Pietraia one day again. N. Bendin, Ottawa, Canada. *** August 2006 We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your wonderful place. Set in a beautiful area, within driving distance of some fabulous sites; we could not have asked more. At times, it felt as though we were a million miles from anything/everything; and that is the way we we wanted it! It was totally relaxing! The Smith family, Louisiana, USA
Cities of art – thermal baths: According to the UNESCO, 60% of World's Heritage is concentrated in Italy, half of which is to be found in Florence alone! Florence is one hour from Montecastelli, Pisa 80 minutes, Volterra 40 minutes, Siena 40 minutes, San Gimignano 40 minutes, Colle Val d'Elsa 25 minutes, Lucca 1 hour 45 minutes, Castelnuovo Val di Cecina 15 minutes, Montecastelli 5 minutes, not forgetting the little discovered gem of Massa Marittima,45 minutes. But remember: the lesser known Medieval and Etruscan towns of Tuscany hold its real charm and beauty. Hundreds of churches, museums, art galleries, buildings, as well as street markets, shops and restaurants, hidden in narrow streets of little villages, are waiting for you to discover and explore them. Very old and beautiful thermal baths were you can relax yourself are 20 to 90 minutes far: Sasso Pisano, Bagno Vignoni, Petriolo, Casciana Terme, Venturina.
Tuscan wines, Tuscan olive oil, chestnuts: Around Montecastelli it is possible to find high quality wines at really reasonable prices, in Castelnuovo VC (15 minutes) there is a good Enoteca. Montalcino with its Brunello and Rosso is not far. It is possible to buy good olive oil in many villages. In Castelnuovo Val di Cecina there is in October a chestnut fair. In San Gimignano there is in November a Festival for finest olive oils (olio extra vergine). In Volterra you can find the local white truffles. During the early spring you can find wild asparagus along the paths. Three good local restaurants at very reasonable prices are 5 minutes from Le Pietraie, many others are in the nearby villages.

We had a lovely week in Tuscany staying in this rental in Castlenuova Di Val de Cecina! Our host was very welcoming and went out of her way to communicate in advance with instructions and recommendations, greet us in person on arrival, add fresh flowers in our rooms, and upon request she gave us a tour of the beautiful gardens! The location was excellent for everything we enjoyed doing on our vacation: sightseeing in the local villages, hiking, enjoying the scenery, delicious meals and wine. The accommodation, especially the bed, was really comfortable and we had everything we needed. I would highly recommend this as an excellent place to stay, we absolutely loved it!

Bellisimo!!
We had a lovely experience at this out of the way gem! It is laid back and quiet. Nedda and Gionatan were great hosts and we wished we could have stayed longer. We did a lot of driving on many winding roads to get around, but the area is beautiful and you cannot take a photo to capture it - you have to experience it in person!! Mille grazie!!

absolutely beautiful spot
The pictures of the Pergola were exactly what we wanted for our stay in Tuscany. When we arrived we were completely and utterly in love with place. In the weeks before our arrival the owners had already provided very accurate directions as the farmhouse is nestled on top of a hill at end of its own charming access road. In addition to this the owners were available to answer any questions we had and also provided information on the local area. We arrived after dark and so it was only the next morning that we were treated to the truly wonderful view across the valley from our private terrace - where we would spend many a happy hour relaxing, reading, eating, drinking and taking in this fabulous view. The style and the decor was totally right for the property with the solid, authentic period peices combining with the beams and the tiles to create exactly the right atmosphere for a rural Tuscan retreat. The kitchen and bathroom were very well appointed and clean. The owners live in the main part of the farmhouse which was reassuring and they are friendly and available but respected our privacy throughout our holiday. There are many utterly charming towns and stunning views to discover in the local area and we would recommend visiting a vineyard and also horse riding. Here is a fantastic base from which to discover this beautiful part of Tuscany and a beautiful place to relax in......surrounded by beautiful Tuscany.

Charming, Restful Apartment with Beautiful views
We spent 3 nights at Pergola but would have liked to stay much longer. The farmhouse sits on a hillside and the views on 3 sides are beautiful. Sitting on the patio for early morning coffee and at sundown was a wonderful experience. The apartment has everything needed for any length of stay. The kitchen is fully equipped and the bathroom is exquisite. The apartment was spacious, comfortable and had a great deal of old world charm. The gardens surrounding the farmhouse, with grape vines, olive and pomegranate trees, roses etc., add beauty and interest to the building. Our hostess, friendly and welcoming, left a beautiful bouquet of pink dahlias as she knew we were celebrating our anniversary. The nearby villages of San Dalmazio and Montecastelli Pisano are well worth a visit. All in all, our stay here was thoroughly enjoyable.

We had a great week staying at Le Pietraie.
The apartment (Pergola) was really nice, and was a decent size. A highlight was being able to relax on the shady patio enjoying the scenery and the peace and quiet.
Our hosts were helpful and even provided us with flowers and vegetables from the garden.
We managed to visit some of the well known tourist sights - Siena, San Gimignano, Elba. We particularly enjoyed visiting a number of lovely little hill top villages in the area and swimming in the nearby river.
We frequented the 2 restaurants in nearby San Dalmazio on several occasions.
We would be more than happy to return some day.
Thank you for a lovely holiday.
