Everything was great. Looks like the pictures. It was great to have the rooms separate from the common areas. Nice terrace with shade. Management was super responsive to all our messages. The kitchen had everything we needed.

Clean and comfortable house well located with a fantastic pool and resident iguanas. The management staff (Mirla) very friendly, helpful and efficient.
The house was great, the pool was awesome! The wildlife was amazing! Management was great also! A few laydown chairs by pool would be nice, and beware getting transportation into town isn’t the easiest. It’s best to have that planned before being dropped off.
This property has a well stocked kitchen. We had 9 people there and cooked most of our food in the kitchen
Clean swimming pool with monkeys in the trees overhead.
Nice air conditioner, which we really appreciated. A 10 minute walk down to the beach, walking past a surf rental shop.
This house was exactly what we needed for a relaxing vacation. The kitchen and rooms were perfect, the AC worked well when we needed to cool down, and the hosts were very attentive and responsive the entire process of booking, figuring out what to do, and helping us know where to find the specific items we were looking for. We would absolutely come back again. My kids could not get enough of the fresh fruit and wildlife. So many great memories made!
We loved our stay at this home! The house was spacious for our large group. The weather was super hot but the AC worked perfectly. We stayed for a month and got to know the cute town and few restaurants and everyone was friendly. The road up is pretty rough but we got used to it. The pool was always clean and warm because of the weather and we spend a lot of time in it. The Wifi was overall pretty good, but no much upstairs but no big deal. It went out a couple times but someone came right away to fix it. We asked for recommendations for ziplining and a monkey tour and they were great. The kitchen was perfect and the laundry machines were better than I expected (of course not like the US). There were iguanas all over outside which was cool and they don't bother you. We saw monkeys briefly each morning if we got up early enough. My parents drove to the town mostly but we also walked there, just steep but close. We would stay there again anytime.
We - 7 Adults, 2 Boys & 1 Baby - have just spent the most wonderful vacation in the Casa
Abuela.
The Casa is fantastic, provides plenty of space (and privacy) – even for such a large group of people. Whenever we were in need of a fixing or extras someone of the friendly caretaking staff showed up very fast and helped.
We enjoyed the neighbourhood, the many clean (!) beaches nearby and further away, the various shops that provide all kinds of great food and everything one needs on vacation.
After the leveling of the various extremely rocky roads to the house the access was very much easier. Clearly not your responsibility but we were glad to have 4WD’s!
And yes, we had no hot water in the house. But we just didn’t care because the weather was hot and beautiful and lukewarm showers were welcome.
We appreciated very much
- the extremely well equipped kitchen
- the clean pool
- plenty towels
- easy laundry and clotheslines outside
- AC’s were working well
- a hose for cleaning cars, patio etc.
- the many fans
Thank you very much from our family.
My husband and I, along with his parents, brother & girlfriend stayed here for 4 full days. We loved the property...lush vegetation, nice swimming pool (got A LOT of use), and wildlife sightings (we saw iguanas, monkeys, coatis, leaf cutter ants, and a snake) were all part of it's charm.
The house was great. The main room with kitchen, dining/living room was cozy and exactly as pictured. We loved hanging out together here, and on the patio. It was very hot, so the air conditioning felt wonderful when inside. The bedrooms were nice as well, each with a private bathroom and air conditioning.
This house is pretty high up on gravel roads, so be sure your car can handle the trek. We had a 4WD (Hundai Tuscon) and it did fine. Not a long trip up and down, just steep. The beach is close with beautiful views of sunrise and sunset. A great little market at the bottom of the hill.
I was not on the rental car contract, so was dependent on others to drive me up and down to the beach/market etc. Technically would have been walkable, but the route is very steep, and in that kind of heat, you won't feel like moving much, let alone walking up and down steep inclines.
We loved our time here! Would love to still be there.

Saludos Cordiales,

Loved the area, the house and the pool. Visited by monkeys, coati, lots of birds and lizards on property. Clean, nice A/C, comfortable beds. We love the area, Esterillos Oeste is a great little town. Laid back, good mix of locals, great beach and fun restaurants. Property manager very easy to get hold of and checked in with us frequently on WhatsApp whil we were there. Highly recommend.
Large and comfortable house, larger than the pictures made it seem. Huge porch so there was always shade to sit in and a nice big table for group meals. Good grocery nearby and very large grocery not too far on the highway. No spices, which is the norm in tropical vacation areas, but plenty of kitchen amenities to cook like pots/pans/toaster/blender/etc.
Property manager, Esterillos 506, was great, good communication and availability. We had a minor issue with the AC which was remedied very quickly.
Two of the bedrooms are entered from the outside using a key, like a motel, which would be good for groups of numerous families and worked well for our teens, but it might be a hassle for families with smaller kids needing all 4 bedrooms.
It isn't a short walk to the beach, but it is walkable down a steep gravel road. There is a convenient parking lot to use on the same road as the house so driving was easy and quick.
Beach is good for tidepools and is very empty on weekdays, for a more sandy beach drive over to Esterillos Este. Fisherman on the beach selling early every morning.
Saw skittish capuchin monkeys around the pool area early mornings, lots of iguanas during the day, but not a lot of flowers during dry season so few hummingbirds. Macaws are regulars at the beach.
This house was very nice and clean. The house was very secure with locked gates and a lot of lighting. The pool is warm but the water in the house doesn't get very hot, so the showers were quick! The dirt road to it was a little rough but not the worst we've been on! It is less than 2 minutes to a local store, restaurant, and beach.
Super recomendado!!

We are a local company located on the Pacific coast. Offering our clients most of our knowledge so that they can have a great time in our country. We love surfing , fishing , waterfalls , hiking and sunsets. Come and spend some time with us , pura vida !
Why they chose this property
Esterillos is central to two large marinas (Quepos Marina and Los Suenos Marina) and is well known to be a fishing mecca. Surfing is also very popular in the area and there are surf shops offering lessons. This home is 2 hrs from San Jose airport and 30min from the booming beach town of Jaco. If you are looking for a place to recharge and explore look no further, this is the place for you. You can literally walk for miles in either direction along the beach and enjoy breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. The west end of the village features a unique lava reef, that emerges at low tide forming natural pools and showcasing the famous mermaid statue. The east side gives the town its name, thanks to the estuary, which is also an excellent spot for fishing.
