About this property

Two-bedroom barn conversion (sleeps four)

About the property

In a blissfully remote corner of the South Hams, you will find a small terrace of stone cottages inside a tranquil barn conversion. Having been recently refurbished, Kine Cottage is an immaculately presented two-bedroom holiday home that sleeps up to four people.

Stroll across the front garden and into the house to find the two bedrooms on the ground floor. They include a master bedroom with a king-sized bed, as well as a twin room which has a single bed and optional trundle pull out bed, allowing for flexible use of the space. You will also find the bathroom on the ground floor, complete with a bath and overhead shower.

Stroll upstairs and you’re greeted by a light and airy open plan living, kitchen and dining area with vaulted ceilings, skylights, and views of the surrounding countryside. Contemporary fixtures and fittings combined with wooden beams give it a homely feel, while a flatscreen television, comfy L-shaped sofa and new kitchen create a modern environment to relax in.

To the front of the property, you will find a private garden with a table, chair and a barbecue. To the rear there is a communal lawn that’s shared with the other houses in the terrace. Kine Cottage welcomes well behaved dogs, and its location is ideal for walkers, with multiple footpaths leading directly from the house across the fields. It’s also helpful to know that it has two allocated parking spaces for guests to use during their stay.

Recommended for: The cottage is perfect for romantic getaways, families of four or friends looking for a quiet retreat.

Favourite feature: The property was recently refurbished and is immaculately presented inside.

Need to know: Kine Cottage is in a blissfully remote location, which is very much the basis of its appeal. It is ideal for walkers, and you will definitely need a car when staying here.

About a holiday in the South Hams

The South Hams is famously one of the most beautiful parts of the UK and a popular holiday destination, peppered with outstanding beaches, pretty market towns and abundant wildlife. South Allington is in a remote, countryside location that’s ideal for rural walks, peace and quiet. Hop in the car and you can explore from the famous sailing town of Salcombe to popular Kingsbridge. Britannia @ The Beach is a popular place to eat – a ‘shack’ by Beesands beach, offering a traditional fishmonger, takeaway, and a unique rustic café/restaurant.

Be aware!
The property was ok and I had everything I needed, except for mobile reception! I had to drive to the top of the hill to retrieve the key code and again to communicate a problem. Staying here was the only way I could get to this part of the coast quickly and easily but it is remote. Value for money, it was a lower spec than two other South Hams cottages I have stayed in, but it was functional.

One week in mid-May 2022 away from it all
Friendly, prompt support pre-booking (alerted us to a cheaper week rental rate through this booking portal – thank you for this, Josh!) Neighbouring property owners were all finishing renovations ahead of peak season (not noisily) – they were incredibly friendly, and could not recommend enough services, attractions, eateries, beaches, pubs, running routes, or go to too much trouble. Property images really accurate – kitchen super-well stocked with more modern utensils, pans, plates and bowls than you'll know what to do with. Beautifully furnished. Netflix capability through TV and WiFi a doddle to work. Only slight issue was hot water amount and pressure of this in the shower, which was sorted within the afternoon by Josh and attended to by the world's most empathic, friendly plumber. Countryside around was idyllic, silent and picturesque – a great get-away. Lanes narrow, hedges high, beaches empty quiet. Go to East Prawle (Pig Nose Inn and Piglet Stores Café). Variety of beaches (small pebbles, sand, cove, large bay) within easy reach. Favourites of ours included Hope Cove, Beesands, and Mill Bay. Thank you South Hams – lovely, warm people. We would happily come back. Thank you!

Kine Cottage
Cleanliness was patchy ( clean bed lined and towels ) but windows were dirty, doors and cupboards had sticky finger marks and needed to be cleaned. The 1st floor skylight window came open in the storm and there was no way to close it. The front garden is so scruffy and full of weeds so no desire to sit out there. Overall it was pretty poor.
