What makes this property unique
TORREVIEJA
The salt and the sea are the inseparable elements which have marked the history and determined the present-say reality of Torrevieja.
At the beginning of the last century there was only a watch-tower, the old tower and a few houses. In 1802 the La Mata salt-flat offices moved to their present site, bringing about the rapid development of old Torrevieja. With the proximity of the salt-flats it began to be a port that exported both salt and the horticultural produce of La Vega Baja, leading to the growth of both the port and the town, which gained its independence from Orihuela in 1820.
The lagoons have been declared a Nature Area and are of great environmental interest, like the rest of the wetlands ecosystem in the south of the province of Alicante, as the habitat of migrating or nesting birds.
The Torrevieja of today has features that mean a great deal, such as the Modernist Casino or the church of the Inmaculada Concepción which are in one of the human and commercial nuclei of the town. This area also has the Monument to the choirs and the Museum of the sea and of salt, where the history of sea-faring and of the salt industry, which are the history of Torrevieja, are explained. You can take a walk down to the fishing wharf and go for a boat ride along the Torrevieja coastline.
Torrevieja has magnificent sandy beaches such as Los Locos, El Acequión, Los Náufragos, La Mata or El Cura. The southernmost is the Playa de los Náufragos, which is equipped with all kinds of facilities. Between the Dique de Levante and the Punta Carral we find the Playa de Los Locos. The longest and northernmost beach is La Mata, from which we can take a trip to see the view from the Torre del Moro, one of the medieval towers that give Torrevieja its name.
