About this property
1 bedroom accommodation in Isle of Jura
Visit a magical place, the Isle of Jura, with only one road, no street lamps and a very traditional crofter’s cottage, ideal for couples to experience complete escapism and relaxation on the Island of the Deer.. All on the Ground Floor:
Open plan living space.
Living area: Freesat, Woodburner
Dining area.
Kitchen area: Electric Oven, Electric Hob, Microwave, Fridge, Dishwasher, Coffee Machine
Sun Room.
Bedroom: Double (4ft 6in) Bed
Bathroom: Bath With Shower Over, Toilet. Electric central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. Initial fuel for woodburner included. Welcome pack. . Lawned garden with sitting-out area and garden furniture. Private parking for 1 car. No smoking.. You’ll notice a different pace of life on Jura, where everyone has time to stop and pass the time of day, the light seems different, and you’ll return home feeling rested like never before. Tigh na Maraiche, named “House of the Mariners” in Gaelic, in recognition of the sea-faring crofters who lived there over the generations, is tucked away in the tiny crofting community of Keils, just a short distance from the main village of Craighouse.
Surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature, it is the perfect spot to truly “get away from it all”. Walking into the cottage through the lean-to sunroom overlooking the garden, you’ll find very traditional, welcoming and cosy accommodation. The main feature of the open-plan living/dining/kitchen area is the stone fireplace and wood-burning stove, ideal for a cosy evening around the fire. Traditional wood lined ceiling and interior décor give you the idea that you may have stepped back in time, yet you have a good Wi-Fi connection as well as a fully equipped kitchen. The comfy double bed promises a good night’s sleep after a day exploring everything the island has to offer.
You’ll love relaxing in the wee sunroom, whilst listening to the sounds of the sea in the distance. There are two stone buildings, one which offers storage for bikes and kayaks, the other houses the utility room, with freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. Just a five-minute walk down the hill and you’re on the shore looking over the very picturesque Small Isles Bay – you can also catch a good glimpse of the bay from the garden of Tigh na Maraiche.
Beyond the islands in the bay, Knapdale can be seen on the mainland, separated from Jura by the stretch of water known as the Sound of Jura. Another five minutes along the road, takes you into Craighouse, the only village on Jura, where there is a hotel, the world-famous Jura Distillery, the village shop/post office, and a gift shop/tearoom. Climb the famous “Paps” of Jura and explore the miles of endless mountain.
