Excellent apartment, reasonable location, but on a noisy road
The apartment is well-proportioned and a good size for 2 people. The kitchen was well equipped and some cleaning materials were provided.
The balcony is large with plenty of space to relax, eat and dry clothes. It gets the sun late afternoon and early evening so a perfect spot for a G&T. It was spoilt slightly by the noise from the road, which was very loud and busy even late at night, and the barking of the local dogs.
The pool area is pleasant and has some sun loungers but no umbrellas. It was quiet most of the morning and I usually had the pool to myself at 9am, it got a little busier in the afternoon. Part of the pool area has wooden decking which needs some urgent maintenance as the boards are loose and uneven with at least one screw sticking up.
It is a fairly steep 15-20 minute walk into Funchal. If you want to see the whole island I recommend hiring a car, but you can get around the local area easily enough using the buses. The number 27 stops right outside the apartment and you can buy 1,3,5 and 7 day bus passes that are more convenient than paying cash on the bus.
The air conditioning wasn’t working when we arrived and, 2 weeks and 3 engineer visits later, the one in the bedroom was still unusable when we left, as it dribbled water every time it was switched on. This was annoying as the bedroom gets very hot and stuffy at night and it’s too noisy to open the bedroom windows.
I would recommend this apartment if the air con and decking were fixed.
