Butterfly Lodge provided the perfect base to explore Weardale. It was spotlessly clean, warm and had the comfiest beds. Lovely walks from the door with plenty to explore in the immediate area. Great communication with the thoughtful hosts.
We had a great week in this lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings. Anita and Bruce were lovely, helpful hosts, with suggestions for lots of walks from the house. We really appreciated all the extras they provided - homemade bread, butter, milk, wine, cake and dog treats! The cottage was so comfortable, with plenty of space and big beds. The area was so peaceful, with lovely walks and lots of places nearby to visit.Thank you again!
We were welcomed with hot bread, Prosecco, flowers, chocolates, and soft music. Very calming and peaceful.. the views were incredible from the upstairs windows. The garden was sublime in the sunshine.. the rooms were decorated uniquely and it felt like home. The cottage was set in an excellent position to explore the history of the area. It was a beautiful situation to have a peaceful relaxing holiday..
The cottage is beautiful. Everything you could possibly need. Anita is lovely and nothing is too much trouble. The beds are really comfy and the coal fire was an added bonus. We would highly recommend a stay here.
Lovely cottage in a quiet location in the wear valley. Great space, secure garden for dogs. Loved the Christmas decor (an unexpected surprise for our early Dec stay). Good base for exploring Weardale, Teesdale, Northumberland and Cumbria!
Very warm welcome by both owners - great conversation about the house and area. The cottage is very well appointed, clean and comfortable. The location provides easy access to attractions in all directions - winding roads in beautiful hill country, and lots of walks.
Just the relaxing country vacation we were looking for.
A fantastic cottage in beautiful surroundings, lovely quirky decor and a very dog friendly garden area. Loads to see and do in the surrounding area. A gem of a find.
Had a great time, the cottage is lovely. This could be the perfect location for you, but I has a couple of issues that may not affect you.
1) The ceiling in the shower room is too low for very tall people to stand up straight. There’s nothing that can be done about this, it’s an old cottage with a pitched roof, it’s just a quirk of the building. For a few days it’s not a big deal, but it’s worth being aware of if you are tall.
2) Its got an electric hob, which I found really hard to cook on - but again this may be a safety thing rather than having gas, but you sacrifice a bit of control, so I keep boiling things over then having to stand holding a pan while the hob cooled down. Again, this may not be a problem for many people, but if you’re planning complicated meals it is lacking a bit in that regard.
Basically if you’re a 6’4” chef you might struggle.
All that said - had an excellent time, it’s comfortable, warm, nice little garden, lovely area, friendly hosts, plenty of space, and a really good base for exploring the area. And the instructions for getting in are exhaustively precise (which is a very good thing, it’s been really well thought out).
