About this property

Charming rustic country house in northern Umbria with exclusive use of pool

On the peaceful slopes of historic Monte Corona, yet within easy reach of the bustling market town of Umbertide, Casa Cappella is set in an idyllic position next to a tiny chapel in a scattered hamlet with views over the Upper Tiber Valley. It has a new private pool (open start June-end Sept). The house and location are perfect for a relaxing, sightseeing or walking holiday. Casa Cappella is stonebuilt and has original oak beams and terracotta floors. The ground floor living area is very spacious, plus there is another 'studio' room upstairs that could be used as a quiet or exercise room (eg yoga), or for board games. There are 3 large bedrooms and a lovely walled garden, it accommodates 6 in comfort (plus some additional beds for children) but is equally suitable for a couple not using the top floor. The garden, with its trees and flowers, can be used for al fresco eating and sunbathing. The adjacent small olive grove/hillside garden has a newly built outdoor pool (available start June-end Sept) for your exclusive use, with terraces and sunbeds. The hills around are covered in oak and chestnut woods, which have trails and paths in many directions. Just 5km down the hill are all amenities and transport. There are great possibilities for sightseeing in Perugia, Assisi, Cortona, Spello and Spoleto, and not too far distant (easy daytrips) are delightful mediaeval & renaissance art towns of Gubbio, Siena & Arezzo. Italy's 4th largest lake, Lago Trasimeno, with watersports, is about 40 minutes drive. There are plenty of opportunities for hill and mountain walking & mountain biking, including from the door, as well in the high Apennines...plus browsing local markets, wineries and eating out. All lettings are Friday to Friday (self-check in and out). We are sorry, but no pets are allowed.

Country break

The setting is a typical Italian hillside hamlet, with simple furnishing, good hot water and what you would expect in a country kitchen. The pool is a great bonus and the setting in the garden and olive grove is picturesque. The house us clean and well maintained and tge furnishing is as it says - rustic. A good base to laze in the sun or wander around upper Umbria.

Week to remember

We decided to return to an area of Italy we hadn’t visited in 20 years. This house and pool was absolutely perfect for us to relax and unwind after visiting all of the amazing towns and cities in the area. The house is a true gem with perfect peace and real rustic charm. The new pool is exceptional and was amazing after long days in the 30 plus weather. We visited gubbio,Assisi,Siena,cortona,citte di castello and lake trasimeno (castiglione del lago was the town we chose) and thankfully they all are as great and memorable as we remember. I’m sure this property will become hugely popular in future years !!!!

L emplacement est ideal, au calme, tres belle vue. La piscine parfaite pour se rafraichir, bronzer ou se reposer à l ombre des lauriers. La maison etait impeccable à notre arrivée. Elle est decoree avec gout. Nois avons eu l impressoon d etre à la campagne dans la famille. Les hotes ont pensé a tout ce que nous aurions pu avoir besoin, pour cuisiner, nous amuser, nous reposer, nettoyer, nous regaler.... il y a également plein de conseils pour les visites, les courses.... vous serez à un point strategique autant les villes et villages que des coins plus naturels. Si nous revenons dans la regions , c est avec pmaisir que nous reviendrons. Merci beaucoup

Why they chose this property

Lovely countryside, and with excellent access to stunning historic places - Assisi, Perugia & Gubbio especially. Florence and Rome are each just over 2 hours drive. The local airport, San Francesco;Asissi/Perugia, served by Ryanair from London Stansted is just 30 mins by car

What makes this property unique

We wanted somewhere charming where we could relax with friends and family with walks from the door, somewhere peaceful and yet not too remote. Casa Cappella had all those things with the added bonus of the beauty of Monte Corona, the Abbey and its estate
