About the host
Hosted by Jorge Lopes

I was born and raised in the back of this property, in a house that today stands in ruins. That little home was where I spent the first 10 years of my life before my family, like so many others from Foz do Arelho, Portugal, immigrated to the USA. I carry with me fond memories of those carefree childhood days growing up in this small village.
I later grew up in New Jersey, where I met my wife, Dulce, when we were just 15. Dulce is also Portuguese, originally from the Bombarral area. We’ve now been married for almost 41 years and have one son, David.
Today, we live in North Carolina but return to Portugal for 2–3 months each year. I enjoy running, biking, swimming, and photography, while Dulce loves cooking and gardening. Together, we share a passion for traveling and watching sunrises and sunsets—something Foz do Arelho offers in the most spectacular way.

Why they chose this property
My family is one of the original families of this village, with our roots here going back more than 400 years. Our ancestors first arrived to work on the Quinta da Foz, which belonged to the overlord who was granted this entire area by the King.
What makes this property unique
The original house was built by my great grandfather José Felix. It has been the honor of my life to bring it back from the ashes. This house isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a labor of love, a piece of family history, and a home for stories yet to be told.
