The Old Historical Duke Tower has been renamed but the Tower and chimney remain from 1868.The Unit is on the south side of a wonderful courtyard garden and you are 2 blocks north of main st and 3 long blocks from Duke University East Campus.

1 king bedroom unit in the Duke Tower condotel complex in downtown Durham with large courtyard and garden that features giant chess game & shuffleboard !
Access to a large pool.
All utilities included with Wifi and Internet access..Coin operated laundryroom is at one end of complex .
ACCESS INSTRUCTIONS : When you arrive at gate entrance, you will see an intercom .
A) Press 141 to contact host for him to unlock gate remotely.
B) Go across courtyard, past pool toward Old Mill Tower and find unit 141. Once you have reserved unit, a lockbox code wll be made available.
C) Enter unit to find keys and a parking clicker on kitchen bar. clicker allows you to bring your vehicle to parking gate at the extreme left of our building and enter lot behind complex.
D) A fob is also attached and gets you inside Pearl Mill Flats and the laundry room located all the way to the right of unit pass pool, turn right, before last door on left.

Great location; so MUCH room for improvement!!

Miscommunication from owner about check in time led to late arrival, tired travelers, frustration getting in. No top sheet on bed; found one in bathroom closet, but bottom sheet wouldn't stack tucked in. Cheap sheets, thin, discolored, clearly past their prime.; bought sheets and set of towels. Clean but stained mismatched towels. Tub drains slowly, so stand in water while showering. None of the customary shampoo. toiletries, no starting packet of coffee. Grouting stained, damage & holes in bedroom door; old thin stick-on 'tile' in closet (and on floors), dirty carpet in bedroom, mismatched lamp shades, nude male artwork in living room. Whole apartment would benefit from new blinds in living room with drapes; add blinds to bedroom, replace low ceiling in kitchen, replace old metal closet doors, interior doors, replace moldings, repaint, granite on counters would be really nice, add hand towel holder in bath. repair poorly draining tub. This really could be a nice place, if the owner put a modest amount of money and effort into improving it. For now? 2 stars in generous.

We have learned a lot from our guests these last ten + years in three different cities ( New York , Durham NC and now Wilmington NC ) and have used their input to improve the short term rentals we still own and live in continuously. Across 3 platforms , we have received many 5 star reviews. Most feedback in this corner of the hospitality sector tends to be about expectations fulfilled or dashed : We could tell, Gloria , way before your 2 star review that your projection of our place was clouded by fatigue and resentment plus you never read the messages nor communicated to us about any of these issues. You asked to come early ( around 2 PM ) in a tuesday message to us before your friday arrival but showed up late Friday evening in a terrible mood , ignoring the message that agreed to your request. If my wife & I had been in such a derelict place ( as you describe it) , we would have left the next day or contacted the owner. You stayed a WHOLE WEEK and refused all communication until you harassed us with texts a week later that heavily criticized our unit . You compared our place to other units in the complex bought at 8 times the price by rich absentee investors yet picked our place over their listings which showcased expensive renovation!!! Go figure. We could have addressed all those issues with our turnover person ( who has been very trustworthy for 5 years )but you stayed mute and did not give us a chance. Communication will always be important to us but your thrashing of our place dressed up as helpful advice was just exaggerated venting . Luca & Amy

Durham stay

We have stayed at Pearl Mill Flats before, this was the first time at this unit. Luca, our host, was very helpful and quick answering any questions we had. The living room was very comfortable. It was nice having a TV in both the living room and the bedroom. The bathroom was clean but is very outdated and can use some TLC. I wish we had brought our own towels. The bed was very comfortable.

Very convenient to downtown, 9th Street, ballpark, bike trails and more. Also lovely pool & complex just to hang out and relax.

Great location and owner

I was familiar with the building from prior visits to Durham. The owner has done good upgrades that don't show up in the pictures, e.g. tv’s, vinyl plank. The security of the building was excellent and though a senior citizen alone, I always felt safe. I highly recommend it.

Simple but perfect

It's not short fancy, but the host is great, and it has everything you need. The neighbors are friendly, and it's reasonable walking custard to downtown, and the Duke East Campus, as well as 9th Street for restaurants and shops. I'd definitely stay there again!

The place was gated in that made me feel more secure. Didn't spend very much time in the condo because my husband ended up the hospital most of the time we were there .The bed was very comfortable. Thankful laundry was in the facility . Plenty machines didn't take long to do laundry.Enjoyed the condo the little time I spent in there.

Great Place, Great Host, Great Location

At the risk of not being able to book this place the next time we come to town---I have to say it was ideal for all our needs. Full-size studio apartment with all the amenities well thought out---good sized closet spaces with extra blankets, towels, and pillows, cupboards full of spices, salt, pepper, oils, coffee. It has the feel of an extended stay hotel. AND the courtyard is beautiful. Our host Luca was very communicative and responded immediately when we had questions.
