Good functional base for a large group and suitably equipped for cooking meals for large groups. A little dated and well used however no issues and comparably cheap for the region.
The accomodation was easy to find for all parties coming from all over the country. Cake and milk tea and coffee left for us on arrival was much appreciated.Rooms are pleasantly furnished and the beds warm and comfortable. We were made to feel welcome We had a meal in the pub on the saturday, which was amazing. Despite being a small pub and we being a big party took up half of the space. Orders were taken and filled quickly and efficiently. The food all arrive together and was hot and of restaurant quality. We were very impressed. We appreciated that the oil crisis was affecting the ability to heat properly, but as it was a warm weekend it didnt affect us too much. The little honesty shop was brilliant and the pizzas large and tasty. We would definitely recommend There are lots of things to see within an easy walk or drive. There is a play park only feet away for children to let off steam. Kitchen was well stocked with crockery etc, microwave and 2 coffee machines kettle toaster etc. There is a dishwasher but we found it less than efficient so washed up by hand mostly. But that was our choice.Fiona the owner was very friendly and chatty and was a good one to ask if you wanted to know about the area.Would definitley book another large group.
Excellent location for family get-together & birthday party. The host (Fiona) was extremely helpful & pub staff provided really great service & friendly too. Pub Food was excellent 100% accurate for such a large party. The accommodation is a little quirky, but exactly as expected given it’s within a 16th century property. Great that they also have a (convenience) shop on site given that the local store is now permanently closed.
Wonderful location and accommodation suited our needs. Some of the toilets and showers didn't work very well. The pub next door were very friendly and the lunch was amazing
Overall, perfect for our needs, big bedrooms, big communal space.
A bit tired in some places but clean, spacious and pub owner, right next door, were really accomodating. And great food at the pub.
The house is a very old converted property so is naturally quirky but was comfortable, clean & had plenty of room for our family & 4 dogs. We especially enjoyed the cakes & essentials for teas & coffees left by our host. We also had a lovely meal in the adjoining Devonshire Arms pub.
Great for our party of 13 as there was plenty of room for us all and the kitchen was well equipped with cooking equipment ,plates and glasses etc. Some of the rooms and areas look a bit tired and could do with an upgrade (stair carpets, walls painting and floors could be cleaner downstairs) but bathrooms clean and beds comfy. it’s also great to have the farm shop and the pub next door is great - very friendly and helpful and
lovely pub meal and service.
We had a brilliant time staying here, it was the perfect space for a family getaway. There were 20 of us in total, 12 adults, 7 kids and 1 dog and we had more than enough space to spend time together. We enjoyed a delicious meal and many drinks at the pub - great atmosphere. The honesty shop was very well stocked with essentials you may have forgotten. There was a brilliant play park just across the road too which was perfect for the kids. We were made to feel very welcome and wouldnt hesitate to book again.
Having read a recent review on this site, i was a little concerned about what we could expect. This is not 5* accommodation but that is reflected in the price. Yes, it is a little tired but it had everything we needed for a family group of 12 including an 88 year old! Every room had an ensuite bathroom which was a great asset. It was clean and well equipped with a large dining table that could seat everyone. It is right next to a quite busy road so there is some traffic noise, which you can hear if you are in the garden. But it didn't really bother us. Having the pub literally next door was great! Food good. Well priced. Large portions. Julie in the pub was really helpful.
Overall a pleasant stay which everyone enjoyed.

Cleanliness of property was very poor
The cleanliness of this property was terrible. It was damp, with visible mould in every room. Nothing was very clean and it was clear only a ‘surface level’ clean had been undertaken before we arrived.
Personally my asthma was triggered by being in such an environment.
We booked this accommodation for a family 70th birthday, the size and layout were fine and the host was helpful in the run up, but due to the terrible level of cleanliness we would not return.
Although the property is a little tired, it certainly doesn’t take away from the quality of the stay. Every bedroom has en suite, plenty of seating in a huge family room with TV, free wi-go, plenty of crockery, huge fridge, gas range cooker , microwave, it had everything. All you need to take is towels and toiletries.
The pub next door is perfect. Wonderful staff, nothing is too much trouble for them, we had the most wonderful food on Saturday night. There were 19 of us, 14 adults and my five grandchildren, the food was not only delicious, but piping hot, and it all arrived together. ( I’ve had meals in “first class” restaurants that haven’t been able to do that for 4 people !)
Fiona, the host, couldn’t have been more helpful
and friendly, the breakfast van outside does THE best bacon, sausage and egg.
We will be back ! I thoroughly recommend the Devonshire House.

This place COULD be great, desperately in need of TLC
We used the property for a large family gathering, 15 of us & 4 dogs. The house is very tired, signs of damp especially in the lounge - lounge smelt very mouldy.
Two toilets didn’t flush, (these weren’t fixed throughout our stay, even though we reported it, we were manually flushing using siphon)bathrooms tired and felt dirty. A top floor bathroom shower, the bracket for the shower head was loose and fell out and hit my daughter’s foot! In the same room the temperature dial on the shower kept coming apart.
What this place needs is a handyman to sort these issues out, replacing bulbs, fixing bathrooms, painting etc.
There are a couple of areas on walls where the damp is clearly visible and two members of our party struggled with worsening asthma symptoms, so bad that they only stayed one night.
We had to continually wash the dishes as the dishwasher was not functioning properly and hardly cleaned the utensils this was disappointing, on further inspection we noted that the spay arms were blocked in places.
Two of our dogs (terriers) were very interested in the leather couch and going behind it, when we moved it to see what they were so obsessed with, we found mice droppings on the floor and a hole where they were coming in and out.
We did enjoy our family get together, but I wouldn’t stay here again not In it’s current condition. For the price we paid I would have hoped/expected a little more from this property- it is in dire need of a good clean and spruce up.
