Walking up the grassy bank & along the woodland path, you will enter the private fenced Shepherds Hut garden. Set within the trees there is a picnic table, BBQ & a hammock for added comfort. The campfire area has log seats to perch on while you toast marshmallows (s’mores kit provided!). Extra little luxuries like super-fast wifi, heated towel rail & (in winter) a heated bed blanket are there to keep you cosy & relaxed. The hut has perfect cooking facilities for glamping!
Set between Burwash Common and Broad Oak Heathfield the Rolling Folly Shepherds Hut in the Woods is a cute & cosy retreat.
There is plenty of wildlife in the setting including deer which seem to enjoy resting in the adjacent woodland or sunbathing in the neighbouring field!
Walking into the Shepherds Hut through the french doors the king size double bed is on your right (with heated blanket for the winter months). This can be converted into a twin bed set-up on request. The room has a small electric fire (plus a radiator during winter) to take the edge off on those chilly nights. There is an en-suite shower room with heated towel rail next to the main room.
The kitchenette is compact & well equipped, with a two burner stove & fridge, plus plenty of cookware for you to prepare delicious food. Outside there is a small kettle BBQ (BBQ utensils provided).
We provide breakfast bars, semi-skimmed milk & oat milk sticks, tea, instant & ground coffee by the stove plus Nespresso pods, herbal teas, hot chocolate (vegetarian friendly), sugar, olive oil, salt & pepper in the fridge or cupboard.
There is a small storage ottoman next to the bed for your personal items.
A bundle of wood, some kindling & firelighters will be left in an outdoor storage box near the campfire area to get you started on your first night, along with marshmallows, chocolate digestive biscuits (for s'mores) & toasting skewers in the kitchen. Please let us know if you are vegetarian, we can arrange suitable marshmallows.
The Shepherds Hut has its own private garden area in the woods. This is accessed by a woodland path from the parking bay on the private lane by the house.
Other things to note:
It is at the top of a small hill with lots of wildlife in the area as well as our children and friendly dog. The ground on the path & within the garden is all in woodland & this makes it naturally uneven. There are steps into the hut.
In the event of wet weather we can put up a canopy over the entrance to the hut on request. The canopy is big enough to have the picnic table undercover for outdoor dining. When the weather is also very windy it's not possible to have the canopy up.
The road is nearby & some traffic can be heard from the garden during the daytime but is usually very quiet in the evening.
We don’t add extra fees for cleaning or pets & ask guests to leave the hut in a tidy condition, so we can manage the changeover fairly in the time we have allocated.
