About this property

Enjoy the Happiness Haven ~ Be in the heart of New Orleans

Permit #17STR-12088
Be among the fortunate to stay in this charmed Nola abode with free guest parking just steps from the door! Well situated close to The French Quarter, Jazz Fest, Frenchmen St, Esplanade Ave, and beautiful City Park. This is the heart of New Orleans' best attractions, while anchored in a historic Creole neighborhood that has an authentic atmosphere of southern warmth amidst a colorful sampling of New Orleans' architecture. Enjoy old Nawlins' charm with the comfort of the most modern amenities. Great for couples, groups, biz travelers & families.

The open concept floor plan and sunny afternoon exposure give it a welcoming light-filled quality. In typical New Orleans style, The Happiness Haven is made for entertaining and spending quality time with family and friends. Free parking waiting for 1-3 guest cars just steps from your front door!

There is the large open kitchen/living room space (with 55" flat screen TV) where you can relax, make meals together, and enjoy each others' company, as well as the lovely courtyard just outside the side entrance door. The dual-master bedroom suites both have their own private baths. The Murphy bed, 40" flat screen TV, and desk with printer make the 3rd bedroom a space to fulfill many needs. It may be used as a bedroom (which shares a bath with the 2nd Master Bedroom), reading/exercise/meditation room, dedicated office, or secondary TV room when the living room is otherwise occupied or media tastes diverge. In short, The Happiness Haven offers a lot of flexibility all in a beautiful setting that is designed for total comfort and togetherness with plenty of room for everyone to find their very own happy place. The main house was renovated in 2014 and this 1st floor in-law apartment was just completed in the spring of 2017. The house is in the city's historic landmark district.

Host maintains guest comfort, privacy, and space but always available as needed. We live upstairs in the separate 2nd floor residence. You have your own private entrance to the apartment directly off of the street and via the courtyard. We may occasionally cross paths walking through the courtyard (fully available for your use throughout your stay) but otherwise, you are not likely to see us unless you message us for assistance.

Note: This is a 1st floor apartment with low ceilings. Surprisingly, the overall brightness of the space and open floor plan make the ceiling height a subtle aspect of the Haven's overall coziness.

The 7th Ward is a historic Creole New Orleans' neighborhood. Many of the rich traditions of New Orleans' culture were born in the 7th Ward. Our home was owned by one of the most prominent Creole families in the city making it part of a long history of family and community of which we feel honored to take part. This area of the 7th Ward is known as Esplanade Ridge because of its proximity to Esplanade Ave and its ridge elevation. It is truly an urban neighborhood - a stone's throw to all the happenings but still with a quiet though friendly local community feel. New Orleans continues to change quickly right before our eyes so our neighborhood is quite mixed with families who have been here for generations and many newcomers to the city. This is also a popular neighborhood for short-term rentals so you will often see other visitors heading your way.

Walk 10 blocks (20 minutes) or take a $6-$8 Uber (approx.) to get to the French Quarter or Frenchmen St. Or, if it is Jazz Fest time, walk, bike, Uber/taxi 12 blocks in the opposite direction to get to the Fair Grounds. Walk three blocks to the picturesque Esplanade Ave. and take the bus or Uber/Lyft to City Park where you can check out the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Sculpture Garden, the Botanical Garden, and so much more!

Lovely!
This home is wonderful- beautiful decor, comfortable beds (even the Murphy bed), and a beautiful courtyard that we enjoyed every morning and evening. Easy, quick uber rides anywhere you want to go. I would recommend using Instacart and having your groceries delivered. We would highly recommend this rental in the Treme neighborhood!

This was truly an amazing place to stay. Our first time visiting New Orleans and can't wait to return. Only hope we are fortunate enough to rent this same property again. Our hosts were amazing, the accommodations were perfect in every respect and so close to all we wanted to see and do we could walk or take a short Uber ride. 100% would recommend!

Spring Break special
We had a great time at the Happiness House. The AC in the front room went on the frit, and the owners were very quick to get it repaired. They were also very easy to communicate with.

Happiness Haven is a Gem
Comfortable and clean, this property was the perfect spot for our reunion, we had 5 adults here but could have easily fit 1 or two more. 3 full bedrooms 2 bathrooms and plenty of space to stretch out. The patio was a boon and well used while we were there. Loved having the convenience of a washer dryer on site and the ability to make coffee, tea or a full meal. Check the hosts recommendations for local spots. Easy access to French Quarter via foot, bike, bus...only about a mile away. Will definitely come back!!! Many, many stars!!!

About the host

Host profile image
I’ve spent most of my adult life traveling internationally after catching the travel bug as a high school exchange student in France. Africa became my calling during undergrad and after living in Senegal for nearly a year, I went on to complete a year of studies in Ghana and later made Ghana home for five years. During that time I started an African women’s social enterprise and eventually a non-profit to support girls’ education which I still run today. Living abroad for so long and always at the grace of so many kind generous people shaped my outlook on life and what’s really important. After being spoiled by such a different way of being, I was not certain that I could live in the United States long-term but my longing to be near family again made me give it a try. When I came to New Orleans for the first time in 2007, I knew that this was the city for me. So much of what I loved about the people and lifestyle of West Africa is exactly what makes New Orleans the special place that it is. I moved to New Orleans in 2008 and I have been deeply in love with the city ever since. I know that it is no accident that I now have a beautiful home to host others in a city that calls people from all over the world. I welcome the opportunity to pay forward all of the goodness and hospitality that has been such a fortune for me. I truly believe that this is what makes the world go round and there is no greater joy than sharing the city that makes me so happy with others.

Why they chose this property

The first time that I saw this house, I fell in love with its grandeur and graceful architectural beauty. As I have learned more about its history, I feel even more honored to call it my home. The house was originally built and owned by one of the most prominent Creole families in New Orleans, true culture-bearers in our city. The Creole people are known for their tremendous contributions to the richness of New Orleans', and this neighborhood retains the uniqueness that has made the 7th Ward one of our most famous communities. Properties in this area are publicly recognized for their historic value as they are protected by the New Orleans' Historic Landmark Commission. We relish in being located at the heart of the city's best attractions, while still being anchored in a truly historic New Orleans neighborhood. The authentic southern warmth of our neighbors amidst the colorful sampling of New Orleans' architecture give the Happiness Haven an old world charm, set in the comfort of the most modern amenities.
