About this property

Unique country house, Mells, near Babington

Beautiful medieval stone country house sleeping 5-6, quietly tucked away on the edge of one of the loveliest villages in Somerset. Owned by designers, modern rustic style, with pretty garden, wireless internet, Sonos music system and free parking.
Excellent local shop and "the best country pub in England" (voted by Sunday Times readers) with good food, great courtyard and garden, a few minutes walk away.
Previous guests have described staying here as "a quintessentially English experience".
Pets may be allowed at the owners discretion - please message me to check.
The space:
This listed 15th century Jacobean house has heaps of character - flagstone floors, oak beams, woodburning stove and an Aga. Decorated with good art, photography and antique furniture.
There's a large family kitchen with beautiful Neptune cabinets and a separate living room with woodburner, fireplace and a desk / workspace in a quiet corner.
The house been well looked after and restored to a very high standard. Sleeps 6 (two double beds and a three-quarter). All bedrooms have lovely views of the village and countryside.
One bathroom, with roll topped bath and one cloakroom with walk in shower. Aga cooker, Bosch dishwasher, Smeg Fridge freezer, microwave and Miele washer dryer.
There are numerous ways to walk into beautiful open countryside from the house (no driving necessary) - either up into the fields or along the beautiful river, which leads to Frome.
This house isn't ideal for young children as it's very old with antique furniture and expensive rugs, so they must be supervised to avoid damage.
Guest access
There is a large private garden with flower beds and grass, leading to the car park (space for 3-4 cars). And there's a stone terrace for dining outdoors, with a bbq and fire pit.
There are two locked rooms where we keep our personal belongings - on the ground floor and one on first floor.
Other things to note
Parking on the street is free.
Buses to Frome stop outside the house (please check timetables).
10 minute drive or taxi ride from Frome railway station.
The house is not suitable for parties as the village is quiet and peaceful and we do not want to upset our lovely neighbours.
The garden is not suitable for ball games as the grass is not robust. Young children must be supervised due to the woodburner and antique furniture.
Well behaved pets might be allowed at the owners discretion (please request this before you confirm your booking). Dogs must not be allowed on the furniture.

Lovely cottage, conveniently situated.
Dear Nicole We had an enjoyable weekend in your lovely cottage. It is so convenient with the superb village shop and cafe just over the road. Well run, with good food and prices. So tempting to have breakfast, lunch and tea there! Added to that there is the pub doing good meals two minutes walk down the road! The whole village and countryside is delightful with plenty of walks and lots to visit in the wider area. My granddaughter's best things list. Climbing on things- Nunney Castle and Cheddar Gorge Hunting for wild strawberries and hedgehogs.- found in the garden! Beating everyone at Monopoly! A lovely, memorable weekend. Tricia
