6/10 Okay

Just okay...
Our family of 5 was very excited to travel to Belize in June 2022 for our first time ever. However, we were a little disappointed with our entire vacation here. For parents coming with kids of any age it is important to note this property has no washer/dryer, dishwasher, garbage disposal, and no real beach to sit on and enjoy. This apparently is the norm in Belize, so perhaps not something to ding this particular property for, but we really wish we had a full understanding of this before deciding to come here. If these things seem trivial to you, then ignore this review. However, my personal goal when I go on vacation is to work less rather than work more than I do while living at home. Getting groceries was very difficult, the drive into San Pedro was laborious if you wanted to get to a decent grocery store, and restaurants were not cheap. We had a first-floor unit here at Sunset Beach Condos and literally every single time we tried to sit outside on the patio, someone from the general public would approach us on their bike wanting to sell us their handmade trinkets and then get irked when we politely declined. While my husband wasn't bothered by this, it made me feel unsafe if he wasn't sitting with me and I did not want my kids outside alone. Maybe this is nothing anyone else would get upset over, but again I want to enjoy my time on vacation and not worry more than I do at home. We stayed a full week here and I wish we had cut that down to 3 days max. On the upside, we booked our vacation through Belize Travel Adventures and Christine was very helpful in getting us excursion reservations, etc. The day trips (2 of them) she planned for us were amazing, and as long as we were off doing something away from our condo, we really enjoyed our time there.
As a side note - If you can endure an hour in a golf cart on some of the bumpiest roads ever, then driving to Secret Beach is worth it. That beach is gorgeous (and exactly what you envision when you think "tropical vacation"), has beach chairs and umbrellas everywhere, waterslides for kids, a real beach to lounge on, bars and restaurants, and even tables submerged in the water you can sit at and enjoy a beverage at. The downside is you must spend money at one of the said restaurants to get a lounger/umbrella on this beach (and with 5 of us there for 8-ish hours, that added up even with the cooler we brought of food and drinks) in addition to the horrendous drive there and back.
