Why they chose this property
Melides Teatro Loft, Portugal's best kept secret for exclusive beach lovers that want to enjoy the unique charms of authentic village life in the Alentejo. The popularity of Comporta is gently spilling over to Melides, a charming haven located a little further south, 20 minutes’ drive away.
Melides remains a pretty whitewashed town, mainly frequented by locals, with a traditional whitewashed church, blue-striped houses, and a farmer’s market in the centre of local life, where local farmers and fishermen sell fresh fish, fruit, and vegetables from their farms. At its doorstep to the west, there is a beautiful lagoon and the same long, unspoiled beaches as in Comporta.

What makes this property unique
TEATRO LOFTS dates back to the end of the 19th century, when some local landowning families used to come down from their properties and spend the warmer months in Melides. Legend goes that they built this small house for their theatre performances, to self-entertain themselves.
Even though it looks like a small church, throughout the last century it was used as a barn, a motorcycle repair shop, a community kitchen, a physical therapy clinic, and now it is back to being a theatre of moments of life.
The property was transformed by the globetrotter owner as a future loft for her teen daughter to remember simpler village life, which is being lost to the pressure of Comporta urban visitors.
Hopefully she will remember real simple moments such as: "bathing in the local fountain," “watching birds in the lagoon," “bike rides in the rice fields," “playing dead in the rolling waves," and “cooking clams just bought at the market.”.
Portugal is full of surprises, and the best ones are not featured in travel guides. We hope you enjoy your stay. and that this insider’s guide proves useful!
