About this property
Penfeidr Newydd, Newport
Penfeidr Newydd is a traditional restored stone mountain cottage, in a superb secluded location beneath Carn Ingli mountain. The cottage has stone walling and wooden beams, with spectacular views over the Nevern Estuary, Morfa Head and Newport Bay. Penfeidr is a rustic retreat, up a rugged track, where wildlife abounds.
The cottage is just half a mile from Newport, a ten-minute walk along a moss-laden track and footpath, passing the Norman Castle, St Mary’s Church and the village baker. This charming coastal village is known for its lovely independent shops, including a small supermarket, butcher and health-food store, alongside a tempting selection of excellent restaurants, welcoming pubs serving great food, and the Newport Art Collective.
Newport has an unhurried, welcoming feel, making it a pleasure to browse, eat well and settle into village life.
From a gate on your doorstep, step onto the heather-clad slopes leading up to nearby Carn Cwn, with its wishing (holy) well, then follow a well-trodden path through bluestone granite outcrops to Carn Ingli Common, peppered with stone circles, cairns and remnants of Iron Age fortifications, before reaching the magnificent viewpoint at Carn Ingli’s summit. The climb is richly rewarding, with wide open views across the estuary and out to sea, and a strong sense of the area’s ancient landscape.
Alternatively, stroll for a few minutes along the Nevern Estuary to Parrog Beach, home to the Boat Club, a range of water sports, and access to the Coast Path, ideal for peaceful waterside walks and golden-hour sunsets
