About this property
House with pool in the centre of beautiful Laroque des Alberes
This beautifully modernised house is that rarity in a French village - absolutely central and within very easy walking distance of all amenities, but with a pool. It has been modernised to make the most of the views over the treetops and across the village with floor to ceiling windows everywhere.
On the ground floor of three house is an open plan living, dining and kitchen area. The latter is well equipped and includes a fridge, dishwasher, oven, microwave and coffee machine. The living room, in common with the bedrooms, has air-conditioning, and, for cooler months, a log burner and heating. There is also a television. The dining table seats 6.
Also on this floor is a twin bedroom with en suite shower room and a window out onto the quiet street. A glazed door from the entrance hall leads onto the small upstairs balcony with table and two chairs and a lovely view over the pool and trees - an ideal spot for a morning coffee.
A spiral staircase leads downstairs to two double bedrooms and a modern shower room. The master bedroom has a four poster bed and French windows on two sides onto the pool terrace. The other double bedroom, decorated with a nautical theme has a glazed door onto the balcony. There is a reading nook with small sofa looking onto the pool through the feature round window. Finally on this floor there is a useful summer kitchen with fridge-freezer, washing machine and a second dishwasher. This is the main entrance to the terrace and pool.
Externally, the (unheated) pool has a contra-current for keen swimmers.
Laroque itself is a fabulous village - in the foothills of the Pyrenees it offers both peace and tranquility if you want it, with a lively restaurant and cafe scene. In total there are ten places you can eat and drink, from Michelin recommended to tapas bars to pizzerias, and many others in between. The local shops - butcher/traiteur, greengrocer/deli and boulangerie -patisserie, plus weekly market offer plenty of provisions for those leisurely lunches or dinners by the pool. A large Carrefour supermarket and more food options are just 2 miles away.
A 15 minute drive will take you the nearest beach at Argeles sur mer. 5 minutes more will get you to the beautiful resort of Collioure. Inland it's a short drive to the lakes at St-Jean-Pla-de-Corts where you can just relax and take in the views of Canigo (the Catalans sacred mountain) or take advantage of the sporting activities- water-ski lift, pedal boats, inflatable games and more. The nearby town of Ceret has an excellent gallery of modern art - or you can drive over to Spain and visit the Dali museum at Figueres.
Bookings are available on a weekly basis from Thursday to Thursday. This is because flights are generally cheaper during the week and we appreciate the expense of flying in the summer holidays for families. Please note that due to the spiral stairs and the drop from the pool terrace the property may not be suitable for very young children.

About the host
Hosted by Dawn Taylor

We bought La Trille six years ago - part of a long held ambition to spend more time in France. We always intended renting it out in the summer so others could enjoy the house and village as much as we do. But after a few rentals in the first two years covid hit and with it much needed repairs. It’s now back on the rental market for the first time since then. While we live in Oxfordshire (retired last year) a lovely woman in the village will be in hand should you have any problems during your stay.
Why they chose this property
Laroque-des-Alberes provides perfect combinations of mountain and sea, quiet and liveliness, ancient and modern. Our house is a few steps from walks into the foothills of the Pyrenees and 15 minutes (by car) from the nearest beach. It’s peaceful even in the height of summer yet there are 10 places to eat and drink within east walking distance, plus regular events in the summer. Wandering the old streets up to the chateau ruins is a delight - down in the village centre you’ll find a butcher/traiteur, greengrocer/deli, patisserie-boulangerie, chemist and tabac (a large Carrefour is two miles away). We adore the village and hope you will too.
What makes this property unique
It’s rare to find properties in the centre of old villages with pools. Still rarer to find ones modernised as La Trille has been with floor to ceiling windows everywhere letting the light and views flood in. Don’t be fooled by its petite exterior!
Our Thursday to Thursday bookings allow guests to book cheaper flights - we appreciate how much this can mean to families during the summer holidays. Plus it can help to get your bearings and stock up on supplies before shops close on Sundays (Carrefour is open on Sunday morning if needed).
