The classic Nyhavn property built in half-timbering style has almost 400 years of history. If only the walls could talk you would hear stories of how sailors came ashore, got drunk, got tattoos and wooed local girls right here in this charming courtyard. On the third floor we recently restored this massive penthouse with modern features but all the historic details kept in place. Get ready for a luxurious experience through time.
The Space:
A TOUR OF THE PLACE
Located on the high ground floor of a classic Copenhagen building, this spacious apartment unfolds across two thoughtfully designed levels, connected by a striking spiral staircase at the heart of the home. The lower level sits in a bright semi-basement — partially below ground yet still welcoming natural light — creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere throughout.
Upon entering the apartment on the high ground floor, you are welcomed into a generous living space that sets a calm and elegant tone. The spiral staircase acts as a sculptural centerpiece, giving the apartment a distinctive architectural character while connecting the two levels seamlessly.
This floor is dedicated primarily to rest and privacy. Three beautifully arranged bedrooms provide comfortable and peaceful spaces to unwind after a day exploring Copenhagen. Soft natural light and a calm atmosphere make these rooms ideal for relaxing nights.
Also located on this level is the apartment’s stylish bathroom, conveniently positioned near the bedrooms and designed with comfort and functionality in mind.
Descending the spiral staircase, you arrive at the semi-basement level where the apartment opens into its main social space. Despite being partially below ground, the level benefits from natural light and a warm, intimate ambiance that makes it perfect for gathering.
Here, the living room, dining area, and kitchen blend together in an open and welcoming layout. The fully equipped kitchen runs elegantly along one wall and provides everything needed for preparing meals at home, whether it’s a relaxed breakfast before heading out or a cozy dinner with friends.
The dining table invites shared moments over food and conversation, while the lounge area offers comfortable seating for relaxing after a day in the city.
A fourth bedroom is also located on this level, offering a quiet and slightly more private retreat away from the other sleeping areas.
Artistic design details add a distinctive personality to the apartment. Custommade drawings on the glass, created by Troels Andersen Studio, bring an artistic and contemporary touch, transforming the glass partitions into subtle yet memorable design features. Combined with the wooden pillars and a playful neon anchor sign, these elements give the space a unique character and a stylish nod to modern Copenhagen design.
With its elegant split-level layout, architectural details, and carefully curated interiors, this apartment offers both comfort and character. It provides a refined yet welcoming home base for families, friends, or colleagues looking to experience Copenhagen with style, space, and a touch of Scandinavian design
The Neighborhood:
Nyhavn (New Harbour) is the most famous landmark of our city. With its picturesque wooden sailing ships along the canal filled with restaurants and hangout spots this is as charming as it gets. And with the penthouse situated in a historic courtyard behind it all you still get the feeling of living like a local. The new “kissing bridge” across the main canal connects the area to Christianshavn and Christiania in a short walk.
Getting Around:
The metro stops at Kongens Nytorv which is at the other end of Nyhavn, 5 minutes away. From there the airport is a 13 min. train ride.

Everything about this place is exactly as seen in the pictures. It's a lovely combination of modern and old with the post and beam framing exposed. The only downside to our stay was that there was the distinct smell of sewer gas in the shower room that did not go away. I think there's probably a sewer gast vent pipe with a hole in it that's leaking the smell into the room. It needs to be fixed.
Possibly the worst place we have ever stayed and that is not an understatement. Fumes from greasy restaurant below billowing in through an extractor fan straight into the window, generator vibrating through 2 of the rooms it was unbearable. We let the host and VRBO know and have had no reply since the stay. DO NOT BOOK this place
