About this property

Palazzo Grassi 1783 - Luxury Puglia Holidays in a 18th Century Noble Palace

Palazzo Grassi is an historic mansion located on a whitewashed street in the historic centre of Martina Franca, in the now highly sought-after southern part of Puglia. The palace was built in 1783 for the noble family of the Barons Grassi, after whom the Grassi Foundation is named; since 1974, the foundation has organised the Festival della Valle d’Itria each summer. An event for which Martina is renowned worldwide, along with its Baroque architecture, the “Masserie,” and its UNESCO-protected “Trulli.”

Located on Via Principe Umberto with its own private entrance directly across from the church dedicated to San Domenico—whose façade is undoubtedly the most admirable example of Martina’s Baroque architecture— Palazzo Grassi spans three floors with a total area of approximately 250 square metres and is classified as a building of historical importance by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage for its “horizontal structure based on masonry vaults resting on load-bearing walls of considerable thickness.”

The elegant structure, originally built in the 1500s and later renovated by the Grassi barons two centuries later, can accommodate up to six people sharing a private entrance, a wine cellar, a laundry room, a kitchen, a large dining room overlooking a small inner garden, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and several terraces—some equipped with a wood-fired oven—where guests can dine while admiring the view of one of Puglia’s most beautiful Baroque areas (the Cathedral of San Martino, the Palazzo Ducale, Convent of the Augustinian Nuns), as well as enjoying a breathtaking view of the countryside in a region renowned for wine production, olive cultivation, grain farming, and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.

In May 2022, Palazzo Grassi was featured on the websites of TGCOM24 and Cambi-Milano Auction House after being offered for a week in a charity auction to support Ukrainian refugees.
