We enjoyed our stay at John’s property. The location is great, walkable to everything in town. John was a very helpful host, he even helped us to unload the car. It was great to be able to bring our dog with us-she loved hiking.
John was an excellent host! Provided plenty of recommendations during our visit. The property was great and in the perfect location to explore Bar Harbor and Acadia.
The location is very convenient for exploring Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. There is a bike rental 2 blocks away and the bike shuttle to Carriage road just as close. The twin beds on the top (third) floor were fine for our two young adult children, who could walk into town to explore. Kitchen had everything you needed to cook, and we enjoyed reading on the balcony. Shower is a little tight, but nothing we didn't already expect. The host is amazing with wonderful recommendations, and even sent us a video of parking when our flights were delayed late. Loved the bakery just around the corner (Mount Desert). You don't need a car with the summer shuttle unless you want to explore past 5 or get up early (such as Cadillac sunrise). We had a lovely time!
Beautiful property, central, but on a quiet street. John was a great host and answered all our questions quickly. We also really enjoyed being able to bring our dog with us. Highly recommended if you want to explore Acadia National Park😊
Great house located where all the hot spots of Bar Harbor are a short walk away. So much to do! House is cozy and comfortable. We could not have asked for a more gracious host who provided us with everything we needed as well as great recommendations for a perfect family vacation ! A very short drive to Acadia, the jewel of the North Atlantic. We will be back soon ! Thank you, John.
The property is quaint and perfectly located on a quite street, yet walking distance from all the downtown restaurants and shops. We enjoyed the national park and highly recommend doing a lobster boat tour - we learned so much about the lobster industry. John is the perfect host - he cared about our experience and had great recommendations for local favorites! The property is well stocked and clean - we had everything we needed.
John’s home was a perfect place for us to stay on our 1st trip to Bar Harbor. John greeted us when we arrived and was a wealth of information about what to do and where to eat while we were there visiting. The location was convenient for walking to most of the shops, restaurants, Bar Island, etc. John gave us new ideas of things we might like to do every day. It was a perfect place to stay and John was an amazing host!
There’s a reason John only gets 5 star reviews. He was the most gracious and accommodating host ever! From meeting us later than we expected to get in to help us unload (!!!) our fully packed car for a week of hiking w 3 kids 6&under to actually doing a load of laundry for us mid week to providing us his local expertise for excellent food, hikes (Ship Harbor was so so good!) and experiences, John was top notch all the way around!
As for the location, you cannot beat it. We saw a lot of people on social media asking (or complaining) about parking in Bar Harbor… not us! The only time we had to drive was to go into Acadia National Park. All of our Bar Harbor experiences were walkable, even with 3 little ones.
The house itself has everything you need for the week outside of your groceries and creature comforts. It was impeccably clean and comfortable, and kid-friendly enough. We did have to hide some of John’s lovely decor that within arms reach of our 1.5 year old. Our only regret was not bringing a portable baby gate for the stairs to the 3rd floor, but that was easily blocked with a suitcase.
When (not if!) we return to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, we will definitely be staying at Myrtle! Thank you for a fantastic week John!
We were able to spend 2 weeks this summer and loved everything about our stay. The house was clean and comfortable and the location was everything we could have hoped for. It was a short drive into Acadia but was also a quick walk to center of Bar Harbor for shopping/dining or for picking up the Island Explorer shuttle. It's also very close to the sandbar hike out to the island, which was a great place to walk to with the kids (ages 10, 6, and 3). John the homeowner was very nice and helpful. While he lives on the property, we had plenty of privacy during our stay but he was available if we needed anything. We would definitely recommend this home to others and would like to stay here again if we make it back to MDI in the future!
John’s Bar Harbor property is a beautiful in-town rental within walking distance to all the restaurants, coffee shops, bars, shops and everything beautiful and gorgeous about Bar Harbor; yet it’s set back on a quiet side street. The deck was lovely for evening cocktails or grilling, the master bedroom bed is super comfy, and the place is bright and welcoming with tons of natural light. John is a kind and sweet host and it was a bonus to be able to bring my dog, who loves hiking too, and this property is a quick drive to Acadia~ Plus...having in town parking is wonderful.
Thank you John! Susan
We had a great time as a family of 6 in Bar Harbor! John’s place was perfect for our stay being in walking distance to the many great shops, restaurants and activities in town!! Thanks for being an amazing host, John!
This property is so close to the downtown and I was blown away at literally just how close it was. But what really made this such a great stay in Bar Harbor, ME was for sure John as our Host. I've honestly never met someone more welcoming, supportive, full of useful tips and tricks, informative, and overall just kind and neighborly. I feel like we left with a friend. We can't wait to return and stay again! Thank you again John for everything! Max & Sara
The property was perfect! Fully loaded with everything you will need for your stay. Location was within walking distance to all our excursions and John was Awsome!! We definitely have a new friend in Bar Harbor.
Our stay at John's place was very enjoyable. The location, on a quiet side street, is ideal for walking to downtown Bar Harbor center. The supermarket is right around the corner which is very convenient for preparing Covid-19 isolated meals. Overall, I'm sure you will love the place.
We had a great time at 1 Myrtle St. It’s walking distance to everything downtown, while still on a quiet street with privacy. It’s a short drive into the park with amazing hikes and views. John was an amazing host and gave us great suggestions for things we had never seen. We will definitely be back!
The house is a visit to another era with modern comforts. Lots of character and located convenient to the town. Owner John is a great resource for places to visit as well as accommodating. House is fully equipped but no dishwasher or washing machine so pack enough for your time there. Will definitely return.
We had a wonderful stay at this property the first week of October, we were two adults and one dog. The owner John was friendly and accommodating. It was clean and well stocked. The bed was comfortable with plenty of blankets and pillows. The property is located in downtown Bar Harbor but the area was quiet at night and we felt safe walking to and from town. (but watch out for the occasional skunk, LOL) There are several restaurants close by or, you can easily walk to Main Street and avoid having to pay for parking. We had a great stay and really enjoyed our trip. We would rent this property again.
We loved the property being so close to anything that is happening in Bar Harbor. We walked downtown everyday and ate and shopped. We also walked to the Acadia Forest for a hike. John is so helpful and kind. What a great landlord. I do recommend this place!! There were 5 ladies and a baby in our party that stayed there!!
John was such a kind and accommodating host. He made wonderful excursion suggestions and made reservations for us. We made friends with his dog, Tator, too! Our children had a blast and John went above and beyond to make our experience in Maine phenomenal. Thank you sooo much, John. We really appreciate how much care you put into making our stay here enjoyable and relaxing :)
We had a wonderful week in Bar Harbor. John was such a wonderful and welcoming host, quickly answering questions and offering help. The place was quiet and provided all we needed during our vacation. Highly recommend!

About the host

Had been coming to Maine since the early 70's . After living in different parts of the island decided to move to Town . I can walk everywhere . I can put my bike on the shuttle and take me to Jordon Pond . Then ride back home on carriage roads . Pretty awesome .
Why they chose this property
I Love older houses . My realtor called me and said you must see this house . Bought it on the spot . We are close to all . You would literally never have to drive anywhere on the Island . The shuttle 'The Island Exploerer" starts June 23 .
What makes this property unique
All town has to offer is within walking distance .
