This 1972 built caboose was purchased from the Illinois Central Railroad after it was decommissioned, went to the Monticello Railway Museum and subsequently moved to this property in 2006. It has since been tastefully renovated with a full bathroom, clawfoot tub and large living area with sink, fridge and microwave. The private deck has a hot tub on it where you can relax and spend time with your favorite person. Staying here feels like stepping into the past where history comes to life with every charming detail.

One of the best things about this property is its proximity to exploration and attractions. You can head deeper into the mountains and visit Woodland Park or down into Colorado Springs within 10 minutes. Some of the highlights close by:

The living area has plenty of space to cuddle up and read a good book, eat dinner, play games, or watch a movie. The yard on the property has plenty of space for activities.

We had a wonderful anniversary weekend in the caboose!! What a quaint, fun and special place to stay. (Also pet friendly) sitting in the hot tub on the patio in the snow while hearing the creekbed below was the icing on the cake.

This cozy little caboose was exactly what we needed for a short little getaway. There is no stovetop but there is a microwave and a grill. We spent most of our time enjoying the outdoors and the local shops/restaurants in Manitou Springs so we did not utilize the kitchen area much. No AC, but the caboose sits in a wooded area with lots of air movement. We opened the windows and turned on the fans which kept it quite cool (in August!). I contacted the owner once through the VRBO app and the response was immediate. Overall, I was satisfied with the experience. The caboose is beautifully decorated and quite comfortable. I would recommend it for any couple looking for a short stay in the area who plan to enjoy what the surrounding community has to offer.

A great place for a quiet couples weekend. We absolutely loved everything about the caboose. There are 2 little wineries walking distance from the caboose which are great. We will be staying again.

Location. It does state it is next to a highway, could hear cars and trucks passing by.

We had a wonderful time at the caboose. Actually, we rang in the New Year (2020). The caboose decor was very nice, comfortable and tasteful. Loved the hot tub.

Not what we were looking for

Heads up for anyone wanting to rent this property- the owners fly several Blue Lives Matter flags on the property and are very Evangelical Christian (they include requests for donations in their welcoming info for their homeless ministry) so if that’s something that would put you off, steer clear. It certainly would have made us skip this property had we known. The caboose itself was cleanish and comfortable, love the little bathroom too. Decorated like a 90’s craft store (in a good way!). Lots of towels. The host was unresponsive to messages on VRBO, and part of the check in message was a request for a credit card, so i had to dig up a phone number on their website to make sure they didn’t need anything additional from us. The owner who answered the phone was pretty unfriendly and seemed annoyed that I was bothering her. No wifi ( they claim it’s because of the mountains but that really doesn’t make sense). Also pillows by MyPillow, so again, these folks aren’t really trying to keep their political leanings secret. Hot tub was great, and the trees were lovely. We left a day early. This is not a negative review, just a warning to people who aren’t looking to financially support beliefs like these. This review may actually attract more of the kind of people they seem to be wanting to attract, and less people like us, so win-win.

Fabulous trip, beautiful country, awesome caboose. The location is ideal for day trips to many great places. The caboose is just the right size for two. As we don’t like to eat every meal out, having the grill, mini fridge, and microwave was a huge help. We also greatly enjoyed the hot tub and used it everyday. The lot size was smaller than anticipated but still enjoyable.

What a Magickal Experience!
