About this property

Podere Casalino - Luxury Italian Villa with pool and AMAZING views

Nestled on a panoramic hill and located just 2 km from the historic city center of Volterra, Podere Casalino is easily accessible via a paved road and is centrally located in the Tuscan hillside about an hour from Florence, Pisa, Lucca and Siena, 45 minutes from San Gimignano, and less than two hours from various seaside beaches, Cortona, Arezzo and Montepulciano. Casalino is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday or to use to explore and enjoy the amazing sights and tastes of Tuscany and surrounding areas.

The traditional Tuscan farmhouse, set in the Volterrean countryside, was completely restored and preserved 25 years ago and updated again in late 2024. The grounds consist of a new massive infinity swimming pool, decorative outdoor fountain, various outdoor dining/relaxation areas and include a grove of 50+ olive trees, several fruit trees including peach, almond, fig and apricot, and mature Tuscan plantings of oleander, lavender, rosemary, jasmine and wisteria. There is also a small lake, stocked with KOI fish that completes the majestic property. The views, sights and smells are nothing short of fabulous!

The main house consists of 3+ bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a family gathering/dining area, full laundry, kitchen and a recently added portico and expansive outdoor patio/raised terrace/pergola to dine al fresca and enjoy the amazing Tuscan views and sunsets. The fully equipped kitchen has been completely remodeled and connects easily to the Portico and Pergula. Stunning Tuscan views of the countryside can be had from all the upstairs windows.

The master bedroom includes a built-in wardrobe and dressing area and a new en suite bathroom. Two spacious bedrooms with a family bathroom are close by.

Two twin beds for any additional space or sleeping needs can be found on the top floor of the farmhouse.

The separate one room remodeled guest house consists of a full kitchen, bathroom and large sitting/bed room should extra space or privacy be needed. It overlooks the small lake that is surrounded by willow trees.

All bedrooms and guest house benefit from newly installed reverse air-conditioning units to keep you cool and comfortable during the Italian summers. Fast internet is accessed via Starlink.

Why Volterra? The walled mountain top city, dating to the 8th century B.C. is one of the oldest villages in Italy. Conveniently located, and more authentic, and less touristy, than some of the other villages in Tuscany, there are plenty of restaurants, wine shops, museums and shopping to occupy your time as you meander through the old stone steps and streets of the village. Top sights include Roman Theatre ruins, dating from the 1st century B.C., Piazza dei Priori, a fine example of a medieval Tuscan town square, Volterra Cathedral and various other places of interest.

Our family of 8 stayed very comfortably. The property is large with beautiful sunsets & photo-worthy Tuscan countryside. The pool is beautiful but the water is not quite warm enough in early May for much swimming. The villa has all the amenities you need, including a remodeled kitchen. The side sunroom was our favorite room to spend time together in. It is very close (short drive uphill) to the town of Volterra, with a grocery store not far away either. Monica is a wonderful host & answered all our questions in a very timely manner. The history of the villa is fascinating & once Monica shared that it truly felt like we had time traveled back to a forgotten era in the Italian countryside. Our entire family would recommend a stay at Pondere Casalino.

Property & Location Exceeded Expectations

We visited in March 2025, with the intent to use as a base of exploration in Tuscany. We stayed for 4 nights, wish it had been longer. We enjoyed day trips to Siena, Pisa/Lucca, San Gimignano, and Volterra, along with vineyards near Radda in Chianti. Our evenings were spent either in the well-equipped kitchen and enclosed terrace, or in one of Volterra's Michelin-rated restaurants. If you're searching for a base of exploration, this is ideally situated. As for the property, it feels authentically rustic where you want it to be rustic, and modern where you want it to be modern. The ceilings are wonderful combinations of brick or timber beams, with Tuscan-tiled flooring throughout, and the windows open onto terracotta-covered roofs. The bathrooms have been fully modernized with walk-in showers, and the kitchen appliances all appeared to be new and higher-end. The beds were comfortable, with clean, quality linens. Due to the season, we did not visit the pool, but had similar views from the enclosed terrace. While there is an adjacent property, the situation of the home is very private, and the views over the countryside are everything you'd want from Tuscany. The property manager met us at the house and provided a thorough tour of the property. She was professional and kind, and available via WhatsApp throughout our stay for recommendations/questions.I highly recommend, both to explore Tuscany, and to enjoy a secluded property near a quiet Tuscan town with amenities.
