Detached House with private pool and terrace. Perfect getaway secluded location

The Stonehouse is a Detached Converted 2 bedroom farm house nestled in the hillside with it's own private swimming pool and south facing terrace with a panoramic view across tree tops towards Portimão, where the sea can be seen glistening on the horizon, yet is just minutes from the quaint market town of Monchique offering all the local amenities, restaurants, cafes and bars. Monchique has the added benefit of being only a 25-minute drive from the South Coast Beaches, approximately 45 minutes from the more secluded and picturesque West Coast Beaches and 30 minutes from the Portimao Autodrome, home of the Portuguese F1 from 2027.
The Stonehouse offers Privacy, comfort, space, character and as much seclusion as you desire. Restaurants and traditional bars are a few minutes’ drive away or make use of the stone BBQ on the terrace and fully equipped kitchen.
Entering through the kitchen to the spacious living room with dining table, 4 dining chairs, sofa, 2 armchairs, TV, Cd player & wood burning stove you can continue to enjoy the panoramic view.
Adjacent to the fully equipped kitchen which has a full electric cooker, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, Iron & board is a further bedroom which can accommodate 2 further people, either as a Double, Twin, or Single.
Downstairs is the main bedroom (5ft wide bed) & bathroom (bath with shower over bath) toilet and basin, also housing a washing machine. All ground floor windows are fitted with fly screens.
Across the Private terrace is a small private swimming pool, perfect for cooling off on those gloriously hot sunny days! or just relax and enjoy the view in the shade of the old olive tree.
A patio table, parasol, 4 chairs, 4 sun loungers and stone BBQ are provided. Terraced gardens with washing line. Hillside secluded location with stunning view.
Car parking space alongside of house.
For the winter months there is a log fire and oil filled radiators.
There is a weekly maid service.

Stone House Stay - Late July 2025

It was the idyllic Country House stay in the Portuguese hills with amazing views from the Lounge and Terrace that were magical. The House is very tradition giving you that feeling of an escape to another world and time. We enjoyed having a meal and wine on the terrace while looking at the amazing views and the flora that abounds. Access via the local roads is good and there is parking right next to the house and minimal local traffic passing making for a very quiet ambience. Everything you need is provided, plus amazingly well researched and presented information folders about the area, which make for great reading and tips. Monchique and nearby localities have much to offer, we stayed 4 nights and could have stayed another couple.

I left my heart in Monchique

The Stone House, lovingly owned by Mark and Sharon was a step back in time. The stone structure, while I suspect it was built many years ago still had all of the modern conveniences you would want.This well appointed home was set in the mountains and we were able to step out of modern chaos and truly relax. The gardens, the pool and the outdoor patio set the stage for a lovely glass of vhino verde and great conversation.Thank you Mark and Sharon for sharing your well-loved home with us! We will be back again if possible.

Peaceful place with spectacular views, away from the crowds

The house is spacious and nicely furnished with a wonderful outside patio and private pool. There are lots of interesting places to visit nearby and for those who like to walk a good choice of trails, both in the hills and on the nearby coast. Provisions for self catering can be found in Monchique or in some of the towns close by. Weather was very warm for our stay, and the greenery and shade around the house kept it comfortable, and cool enough for sleeping .

The Stonehouse occupies a stunning location with panaramic views across the hills and down to the coast. Access to Monchique and its supermarket and restaurants is a matter of minutes and to south or west coast is only 30 or 40 minutes.The value is good too, at a considerably lower price than most properties in the area, but there are some compromises to be made: During our stay the pool filter didnt appear to be working so we had to use the net a lot to skim the surface. The microwve is temperamental and turned when it felt like it, but mostly it was the bed. At home we have an extra firm mattress but the one at the Stonehouse is so unforgiving we struggled to sleep, and the bed is noisy, each time one of us rolled over it woke the other up.Overall its a nice place to stay but does need a little tlc.

We had a pleasant stay. The location and the terrace area is very nice, but inside the house could perhaps use some updating. The lounge and main bedroom are spacious. The second bedroom got very hot [it was 38c each day], and the kitchen had minimal counter space and a small fridge. More toilet rolls, bin liners, etc were needed.

Quiet and peaceful

The property was exactly as described so there were no unexpected surprises. The property was in quiet peaceful location on a hillside with great views over the countryside all the way to the coast. The kitchen was well appointed with plenty of utensils. The pool was not large but was ideal and very welcome to cool off in during the day. Even the the house seemed remote the village of Monichique was only 10 minutes drive where there is a supermarket which has everything you need for you stay.There are restaurants and here too. Communications withe Mark and Sharon were fast and responsive.

Lovely peaceful cottage

Not long back from a wonderful stay at The Stonehouse. The view was breath-taking over the mountains to the coast. We had lovely clear blue skies for the first part of the holiday, and it was warm throughout the entire week. The cottage is lovely with a large lounge and everything that was required for our stay there. Although we never switched the t.v. or c.d. player on, as it was just nice to sit outside on the lovely large terrace and admire the views and the sounds of the birds. We ate outside every night, buying provisions from the local supermarket about 5-10 minutes away in Monchique. There were ample towels and bed linen, and Paula the maid made sure everything was alright for us during our stay. I can understand why Mark and Sharon love it so much, we could hardly tear ourselves away but here are lots of places to visit during the stay and we visited Alvor, the West Coast beaches and Monchique. Mark and Sharon provided loads of information of places to visit and all about the surrounding areas. There were local restaurants, which you could walk to during the day, but it was a long walk uphill back, but easily driveable in 5-10 minutes. If you want to get away from it all and just relax would certainly recommend.

My husband and I spent 4 nights at the Stonehouse during our 2 week trip around the southern part of Portugal. The only complaint I have is that we didn't have enough time here. We did several day trips i.e. to Albuferia for a cruise, to Salema, etc. It was about 40 minutes to these sites. Then we got to return the Stonehouse to relax for the evening to relax. The nearby town of Monchique had a grocery store so we stocked up on what we needed there. We had an evening meal in the town a couple of nights. Meals were delicious and reasonably priced. Sadly, I don't have the names of the places we choose. My bad....The house had everything we needed to prepare meals if we chose to. So much information in the binders at the house about local attractions, maps, restaurants. Those were an excellent resource. The house is in a very quiet location. I honestly wasn't sure our GPS knew what it was doing when we were first heading there. But we were rewarded at the end of the drive. I would recommend this location for a couple looking for a quiet relaxing visit to the area. The outdoor seating area and pool were just so perfect with the lovely view of the valley below. I can't say enough positive things. I would love to go back someday. We shall see. Thank you to Mark & Sharon for offering this place to travelers to this area. We certainly enjoyed our time at the Stonehouse.

Ich war mit meiner Mutter für 14 Tage an diesem schönen Ort. Ein gemütliches, einfaches Steinhaus mit einer Terrasse und einem wunderbaren Pool. Der einzigartige Blick und die Ruhe ist besonders hervorzuheben. Hier kann man wirklich abschalten. Das Haus hat alles was man braucht und in der Umgebung findet man viele Restaurants und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten. Ideal für auch für Wanderer. Die Kommunikation mit den netten Vermietern war zu jederzeit perfekt und wirklich schnell. Ich würde es wieder buchen.

Points positifs : -Tres joli emplacement avec une superbe vue sur la montagne et mer. -Endroit calme. -Maison avec du caractere. -Documentations sur la region particulierement fournies. Points negatifs : -Check in sans presence physique (merci beaucoup à la dame qui nous a guide) pour 2 semaines de sejour. La 1ere fois que cela survient avec Abritel. -La chambre du 1er etage n'est pas equipee des rideaux necessaires pour une chambre à coucher. -La terrasse est en mauvais etat : transats en mauvais etat,eclairage manquant pour diner dehors. -La piscine ne permet pas de nager; c'est un bassin.

Melhor sitio para descansar

Adoramos a casa e a localidade, se o que precisavamos era estar isolados da vida de cidade, este foi sem duvida o sitio melhor que encontramos. A casa não tivemos grandes surpresas uma vez que as fotografias fazem jus a aquilo que é. O caminho é um bocadinho difícil de se fazer a noite pois não o conheciamos e por isso e algo assustador. Excellent holiday property

This is a great property as described - the location is very peaceful and overlooks the hills down to the coastline. Has all facilities and equipment needed, whether it's a quiet stay or active holiday. Pool is plenty big enough for a quick cool down and the outside area is very useful. Monchique is close enough for a 10 minute taxi ride with several restaurants. We walked to a pizza place (around 20 minutes) but make sure it's before sunset! Highly recommended to stay here.

We purchased the Stonehouse in 2007 having spent a wonderful holiday there to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary.
We have continued to rent the property since we bought it and regularly visit to ensure the upkeep of the property is maintained.

Why they chose this property

Having never visited Portugal before we stayed at the Stonehouse to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary and fell in love with the house, location, and area. As fate had it, it turned out that the property was for sale, so on a whim we decided it was to good a chance too miss and bought it!
The Stonehouse offers seclusion and privacy yet is within close proximity to the quaint market town of Monchique that has all the amenities one requires when on holiday - cafes, restaurants, fruit/veg market, bank, chemist, butchers, souvenir shops and supermarket.
The view over the 'valley' towards Portimão and the south coast, just made us want to own this best of both worlds, seclusion but without being isolated. It is an ideal base to explore both the southern & western area of the Algarve.
