About this property

Old Miners Cottage

Old Miners Cottage is a 179-year-old stone cottage set on a hillside in the Tamar Valley near Dartmoor. It is a two-bedroom cottage with its own charm and character, combined with modern touches to make it a unique little place to stay.

The open-plan living and dining area, featuring a beautifully restored stone fireplace and original beams, has a wood burner for cosy evenings, a baby grand piano for the musical, TV with Freeview channels, some books, puzzles, games, and Alexa.

The garden patio offers a charming panoramic view year-round, with seating, a parasol for sunny days and a patio heater for chilly evenings. There is also a Ninja woodfire oven for a full al fresco dining experience. Beyond the patio, there is a more secluded area with seating, a stone firepit and a kamado charcoal barbeque. There is a garden shower positioned perfectly for the hillside views. Enjoy a hot outside shower as well as the fresh air, the birds, and the sunlight (or moonlight). If you would like to use this just let us know so we can prepare it before your holiday begins.

The kitchen is fully equipped with an induction hob, oven, fridge freezer, dishwasher, pots and pans, toaster, tea set, cafeteria, and a good selection of spices and condiments for anything from breakfast, ready meals to a full roast dinner. Alexa Echo Show will play your cooking playlist, show you popular recipes and set timers so you can focus on the cooking.

The bathroom features a wet room with an exposed stone wall, a lovely rain shower, hand shower, heated towel rail, and Egyptian cotton towels. You are welcome to use the washer dryer, iron and ironing mat, and the Dyson hairdryer during your stay.

Both bedrooms have a TV with Freeview channels, feather pillows, very comfortable beds and the bigger bedroom has an Alexa.

The Area

Gunnislake used to be amongst the richest mining areas in Europe and is now in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering lots of trails and walks for you to explore historic mining sites and the stunning landscape in the area.

The cottage is on the Devon and Cornwall border, surrounded by beautiful towns of the two counties and perfect for exploring both the North and South coasts. We are a 3-minute drive from the Gunnislake train station and only 10 minutes from the breathtaking Dartmoor National Park, 40 minutes from the picturesque seaside town of Looe and an hour from the golden beaches in Newquay. Plymouth and Exeter are 30 minutes and an hour away.

Gunnislake itself is a small village with the usual amenities - a shop, post office and a pub. Our nearest town Tavistock is a 10-minute drive away. It’s a beautiful market town with cafes, charity shops, takeaways, Tesco and Morrisons.
