Delightful open plan barn conversion with piano in historic Dartmoor village
Townend Barn is detached and situated in an acre of grounds with Townend House the village of Lydford. The barn is situated behind the main house and the parking is off road. Beautifully converted to a high standard, the barn is open plan but intimate and heated by storage heaters and a very efficient wood burning stove. There is a grand piano to play, two bookcases filled with interesting books for you to enjoy; original paintings and wooden animal head sculptures decorate the walls. Lydford has no street lighting so after an evening meal at one of the three good restaurants in the village you can walk home without worrying who is going to drive. Lydford is a thriving working village and an ideal base from which to have a relaxing and interesting time. The moor is only 15 minutes walk. It is a beautiful unspoilt part of the moor - No ice cream vans or big coach parties. You can find wilderness within half an hour.
Changeover day is Friday.

Located in Okehampton, this holiday home is in a rural area. Ashbury Golf Club and Tavistock Golf Club are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those looking for area attractions can visit Country Cheeses and Meadowlands Leisure Centre. Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre and Calstock Arts Centre are also worth visiting. Sailing and surfing/body boarding offer great chances to get out on the surrounding water, or you can seek out an adventure with mountain biking and hiking nearby.
We spent our honeymoon in this beautiful place the barn was lovely with everything we could have wished for and a beautiful secluded garden which our dog Bella loved.
We had a great time exploring Dartmoor which was helped by the gorgeous weather.
We enjoyed the barn very much, great location in a village with good dog walks nearby and excellent dog friendly pubs. I had not read the description properly, had I done so I would not have stayed here simply because we were not allowed to have the dog off lead in the garden. This made morning and evening poos very difficult. We found the barn beautifully appointed with wonderful books and paintings and a fabulous piano, perfect for those rainy days - forecast but didn't happen. I was just a little surprised that though extremely well equipped basics were missing - tea, coffee, milk, and shampoo, body wash - things we have always taken for granted in hotels/holiday cottages. We have one serious complaint and it was our inability to communicate with our hosts thanks to Vbro not recognising our booking. I managed to speak to someone who I could not understand due to her lack of English, she indicate the fault was at my end and I should clear my cache! I was eventually able to get a phone number from the virtual assistant and was able to call our host.Chrissie Way
Great and very British!
We spent 4 nights at Townend barn over Christmas and had a fabulous time. The barn is beautiful, well appointed with everything you need for a short stay. We would definitely recommend Townend barn and would stay there again.
An extremely comfortable, very well appointed accommodation. Excellent situation for pubs, the Moor and public transport. Nick and Tania were excellent hosts - there if we needed assistance. The highlight for me was the opportunity to play a beautiful Steinway piano
A beautiful barn with a secluded garden in a lovely village with a superb pub within walking distance. Lots of walks on your doorstep and on and around Dartmoor.
Delightful accommodation, peaceful and quiet. Ideally placed for where we wished to go and what we wanted to do, with a couple of artistic extras. Fran loved the Steinway!
We had a very enjoyable week staying in the barn over New Year. The barn is well equipped, including a decent kitchen. The piano is a great addition to the barn, and I very much enjoyed playing it every day during our stay.
Plenty to do nearby, with the Granite Way and Gorge both on the doorstep. We also made trips to nearby Dartmoor and Looe.
Booking and check in all very straightforward, and Tania & Nick were really helpful with everything - thank you both.
Really loved this thoughtful barn conversion, tucked away in pretty Lydford only a short walk from the fabulous candlelit Castle Inn and other options only a little further. Great farm shop nearby too. Everything has been thought of in the barn and it’s set in very pretty private gardens. So quiet at night too- bed is very comfortable, shower is great! A lovely stay!

Perfect!
Nick and Tania are fabulous hosts and the barn is cosy and comfortable. Everything you need is there. Beautiful walks and a ‘proper’ night sky! It’s all here! I’m a musician so having a gorgeous Steinway at your disposal is more than just a treat! I will be back!

gemütliches Nest in guter Lage

A lovely barn conversion in a blissfully quiet location.
Townend Barn is a lovely holiday cottage behind Nick and Tanya's house, away from the road and looking out onto the garden. The cottage had everything I needed for my stay. Nick and Tania are very welcoming. Lydford is a great location from which to explore mid-Devon - whether up on Dartmoor or towards the coast. I had a fantastic stay and will come again some time.

Fantastic!
A very lovely property in a stunning area! The barn had all of the amenities that we needed to enjoy our stay, as well as a selection of walking and activity guides, and Nick and Tania were very helpful too!
The property was exactly a small pictured, and we would definitely visit again!
