About Burt Butler
Having grown up on a lake in northern Minnesota, when Burt Butler moved from North Carolina to Idaho in 1993 to work for the state court system, one of his dreams was to find secluded lakefront property that his four children could enjoy, and ultimately build a cabin that the family could consider a comfortable second home. That dream came true in 1998 when Burt Butler found a unique secluded lakefront property on a peninsula with a gentle shoreline and spectacular fishing with no motor boats allowed on the lake. In the Fall of 2001 the elegant and rustic cabin was started and finished in June 2002.
Burt Butler purchased this Cabin in 2001
Why Burt Butler chose Ashton
Our secluded vacation property, with close proximity to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, is only a 75 minute drive from our home in Idaho Falls, and offered year round recreation opportunity for our family. Swimming, canoeing, fishing and outdoor fires under the stars in the summer, Fall colors and 4 wheeling in the sand dunes adjacent to the lake, and early winter ice skating, and when the snow gets deep great cross country skiing and snow mobiling and the enjoyment of a wood stove.
What makes this Cabin unique
Peace, quiet, fires outside and inside, barbecue on the deck and dutch oven cooking, great fishing, wildlife variety from frogs, beavers, trumpeteer swans, birds of all varieties including bald eagles, moose, deer, to a sighting of a wolf.

Peacefully quiet
Burts Cabin was more than what we expected. The cabin is very comfy and clean. The kitchen was well stocked everything you need to cook. We visited in November and really enjoyed the wood stove. The cabin has great access to the lake for fishing . I would definitely stay here again. Burt was very prompt on returning messages and easy to communicate with. Thanks so much for sharing your private getaway
Great, remote get away.
Beautiful setting. Cabin is the perfect size for a family.
We were visiting to ride the St Anthony dunes. It was a great place!
Hone away from home
We have been to Burt's cabin 4 years in a row. We absolutely love it! We truly feel like it's a home away from home!! Property is spectacular & private. We love the wildlife & serenity of the area. Fishing is fantastic & the cabin has all of the amenities you need. Comfy & cozy. He just added a reclining sofa up in the loft & an awesome log rocking chair. He keeps adding extra charm & we keep coming back for more. We consider Burt a friend & we will definitely be back. Thanks for sharing your place with us.
P.S. Our little dog loves it too!! :)
Idyllic setting with modern conveniences
Burt’s cabin is a gem. It’s a beautiful cabin located on a nice quiet lake. The location is secluded, yet close enough to town to get groceries and supplies. It’s also fairly close to both Yellowstone and Grand Teton for the adventurous types. Burt is a great owner who answers any questions you may have expeditiously. We loved it and plan on going back next summer!
Great location!
We loved the cabin and it’s location. Had a great time on the lake and exploring the sand dunes. My family members complained about the dirt road with their low clearance vehicles, but I did just fine in my SUV :)
Fun family getaway
I originally reserved this for our anniversary, but after seeing how fun it looked we decided to take our youngest kids 11 and 16. Everyone loved the cabin and lake. We e also took 4 wheelers and didn't have far to go for some really fun riding. Burt was great at making sure we didn't have any questions and getting us all the information we needed. We are definitely going to try and stay here again.
