About this property

Logburner / Inglenook Fireplace. Dogs Welcome, By A Great Pub & The Pennine Way.

Welcome to Heart of Hawes, a much loved premium holiday cottage set in a quiet / slightly elevated location in the centre of Hawes offering stunning views to countryside beyond.
Sleeping five people (plus a baby) in three large bedrooms and featuring a living room with a stunning inglenook fireplace / log burner, kitchen diner, south facing cottage garden, and an annex laundry / bike / equipment store.

Perfect for All Creatures Great & Small country, The Pennine Way, Yorkshire Three Peaks and the wider Yorkshire Dales.

Step outside and discover the charm of Hawes with its many eateries, pubs and quaint independent shops, including; two family run grocery stores, Cockett’s butchers and bakers, an fashioned sweet shop and an ice cream parlour. Hawes is also home to The Dales Museum, a National Parks Tourism Centre and the Wensleydale Creamery cheese tasting room. Last but not least, don’t forget to visit the famous Hawes waterfall just 250m from our front door.

The Cottage is very much in the heart of Hawes. The Pennine Way passes the cottage and its 35 seconds walk to the 350 year old White Hart Inn.

On entry we’ve a large hallway with coat hooks, welcome table, and an old pew to sit on to take boots / walking shoes on / off. Door into the living room, and another door to the rear outside area (bike access).

Through into the spacious living room with two large windows offering light, and the centrepiece of the stunning original inglenook fireplace and log burner. There is also an antique oak dresser that contains board games and jigsaws for your use. There’s a large table in the living room suitable for board games or jigsaws too. The room has a smart tv with free view channels and the ability for you to log into your own streaming accounts (don’t forget to log out at the end of your stay).

Through into the well equipped kitchen with a dining table capable of seating six people. Bosch electric oven, electric hob, newly fitted dishwasher, a half sized under unit fridge, and a sink and a half and a draining board. Under top unit lighting to help ambiance.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms and the bathroom;

Two spacious double bedrooms each with a kingsize bed, both offering fabulous views of the town and the dales beyond. The third bedroom is a good sized single at the back of the house and has a single bed with a view of the garden.

There is plenty of storage across the three bedrooms; a mix of wardrobe, drawers and hanging space.

The king size beds have 1600 pocket orthopaedic medium to soft mattresses from John Lewis. Our duvet covers and pillowcases are by Joules and our duvets, pillows, pillow liners, and bottom sheets all have synthetic filling.
All curtains have blackout linings.

To the rear (through the kitchen / hall), we have a small but more than sufficient cottage garden. Externally at kitchen level there is a paved area long L shaped ‘corridor’ bordered by the external walls of the house and by a dry stone retaining wall to the lawn area above. This paved area has two gates so is capable of being a secure area for dogs or small children to stay at house ground floor level and explore outside from the kitchen subject to appropriate supervision

The lawn and patio dining area sits between 4’ and 5’ above the level of the paved area below and is accessed by two sets of paved steps (both with handrails). There is a drop from lawn level to paving below and we signal this by posts and chain and ask parents and dog owners to take account of the potential risk of falls.

The patio area can be a real sunspot morning and lunchtime as it is south facing. It loses the sun later in the afternoon. We provide a circular patio table, four metal chairs and two wooden chairs. There’s a lovely view over rooftops eastwards down Wensleydale valley from our garden.

Turning left out of the kitchen door you pass our neighbours back door and reach an olive painted door which is our laundry annex. This is an un-heated outbuilding and it contains a washing machine, dryer, and a freezer for your use. There is also a stainless steel ‘industrial’ sink that is ideal for washing off smaller dogs (sorry no hot water in here). You are welcome to store bikes in this lockable room, note we also have brushes and mops and children’s fishing nets and buckets available for your use during the stay.

Our senior neighbours have a shed and an outbuilding on the left hand side of the garden and will be seen. They also have a right to cross the path across the raised grass area (Their house is to the left of our house, their patio, laundry and garage is to the right). They have lived here for over 50 years and you may want to chat to them.

We have tried to provide a good inventory of items in the house and plenty of cutlery, crockery, and other cooking and baking items.

We provide a Hettie vacuum cleaner, mop and bucket, ironing board, iron, airer etc.

For babies / younger children; we have two stair gates (top and bottom of the stairs), a travel cot (please bring your own mattress, blankets etc) and a high chair.

Free super fast BT Wi-Fi is installed and it has good signal strength throughout the house,

For dogs we have two dog feeding bowls, and offer dog towels for drying off when arriving home. We offer complimentary dog treats and poo bags.

Over £15,000 has been invested in meeting new fire safety requirements for small accommodation providers. FR30 rated fire doors on every bedroom upstairs and two internal FR30 rated doors downstairs, wired in smoke / heat / CO detectors in the house, emergency lighting in the upstairs hall, and thumb lock twist grips on all exit doors. A fire blanket and a fire extinguisher are provided.

Throughout the house we’ve tried to put up some good art sourced largely from The Dales.

Hawes has a lot of free street parking near the cottage, and two pay car parks within five minutes walk. We will happily refund any reasonably incurred Hawes pay car parking charges during your stay.

We’ve given a lot of though to how we stock the house, all feedback is welcome and we want to continually upkeep and improve the house.

Note we are proud to have used almost entirely local trades and advisers in buying and refurbishing this home and we hope it shows in the quality and feel of the accommodation.

Guests have use of the whole house, the annex (laundry, freezer, and bike storage) , and the back garden.(See note on access, in the property description and also the note re: the neighbours access in the rear area).

We have crafted a bespoke 40 page guide to Hawes and things to do in the wider area of the Dales offering our local knowledge and personal recommendations to guests,

We pride ourselves on offering any advice / help you may require, very much a personal touch approach from us.

We provide sufficient logs, kindling and firelighters for the first night, to use in the log burner. Shops in the town sell supplies for your ongoing use.

Occasionally fixtures and fittings in the house will break / wear out / need replacing, and we will always endeavour to do so quickly in a reasonable manner. We cannot guarantee every item will be exactly available / provided as listed, but our intent is always to provide a quality environment for your stay and we will communicate with you if we feel anything is changing that impacts on the experience.

Being in a rural area we find that very occasionally utility supplies may be interrupted (power cut for example). We don't refund whole or part of stays should your stay be interrupted by a utility issue, nor do we cover loss of food etc (fridge / freezer not working as a result of supply interruption). We advise you have normal travel insurance in place as you would have going abroad.
