About this property

Ripshin Mountain studio apartment

Enjoy our natural beauty surrounded by wooded mountains and creek, with deck, overlooking the fish pond. Hike on our 45 acres or continue on to forest service land. Our apartment has an eclectic decor of modern, country and Asian with all new appliances; a handmade solid oak shaker style pencil post bed; a handmade futon couch; fireplace; and sauna. Our space is relatively free of allergens with a tile floor and solid covered wood ceiling, walls and cabinets. The distance from our home to the apartment is about 100 yards. There are some slopes for sledding very nearby. ****Warning**** Our 1/4 mile road to our home/apartment will be closed during snow or ice covered conditions. This closure will be up to the owners' discretion. Off road parking will be available on the right of Tiger Creek Road near the road to our apartment. You will have to cross our bridge and walk up the road taking the left fork (gravel drive) to our apartment under closed road conditions. We apologize for any inconvenience but it is for your safety. Arrangements may be arranged for added hours after the 11:00 am check out time for $15/hour-in advance, cash only.

Lovely place, Lovely owners
Wife and I was trying to get away for a couple days. The place was perfect for us. Though it was close to the owners home, we had a 100 percent privacy. The place was comfortable clean and perfect for our needs. The owners were wonderful. I am not sure if there is any better owners on vrbo. Would recommend to anyone.

Cabin in the woods
This little cabin was perfect for our stay -- and just as advertised. Clean and simple -- yet with anything you might need. The hosts -- Patrick and Norma -- were very nice and thoughtful. If you're missing your dog like we were, the super-friendly dog greeted us each day -- and took us for a hike up the mountain next to the beautiful creek that runs next to the path up the mountain. We spent much of our time in the tri-cities area, and this cabin was convenient to those outings.

Quiet, beautiful, and remote setting. Clean, comfortable, modern cabin. Great hosts.
I highly recommend this property. I needed a quiet place to hide away and get some writing done and this worked perfectly. It also put me close to Johnson City so that I was able visit family there in the evenings. The cabin felt new and clean. The bed was comfortable. The location was quiet and peaceful. It is surrounded by nature with no neighbors in sight. And, there is a built in sauna in the bathroom. As a bonus, after Pat noticed that I showed up in a Miata, he pulled his yellow Boxster out of the barn, and invited me to join him and Norma on a "roadster drive" and lunch on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was a highlight of the visit! I would not have found such beautiful roads to enjoy on my own.

About the host

Host profile image
Patrick is a self employed furniture maker. However, he has been renovating our home and apartment in recent years. His hobbies include reading, hiking, playing with his dog, and driving/caring for his Porsche Boxster S. Patrick was born in Chicago, graduated from high school in Raleigh, and served in the Navy during the Viet Nam war.

Norma is a retired college professor. Her hobbies include reading, hiking, music concerts, theater, dancing with the Sabine Hill Social Society, keeping in touch with former students and friends through social media and organic gardening. She was raised in Florida, attended Indian River Jr. College/Florida State U./U. of S. Florida/U. of Oregon/East Tennessee State University and Milligan College.

Why they chose this property

When Patrick first saw our land he fell in love with it and realized the potential for a hydro electric system. Forty years later, he designed and constructed our own micro-hydro electric system that generates the amount of electricity that we use. We love living here and have very deep roots like the trees that surround us.

What makes this property unique

This place on Ripshin Mountain has served us as an ideal location to raise our daughter and build memories with our grandchildren. We have a fish pond that is stocked with hybrid blue gill fish and is 12 feet deep. For an additional fee you may fish with or without your own fishing tackle.
