Sweat, stress and hassle
Was told the morning after check-in that upstairs AC was broken & would be fixed halfway through trip. Later owner told us it broke the week prior. We were not told about it before check-in so we could find another spot. Owner said we would discuss compensation later, which never happened.
Upstairs has 2 of 3 bedrooms. Average temperature without air was 78 upstairs, reaching 81. The fan in master stuck on low. Bugs came in because upstairs windows don’t all have screens.
On the 4th day, the owner finally sent over 2 fans, after I couldn’t find them at the store. It was 4 miserable, sweaty, sleep-deprived nights.
The owner told us to sleep downstairs, but there is nowhere for 5 people to sleep. Our teenager was in the bedroom, & couch doesn’t pull out. Owner, while responsive, repeatedly commented, "it is comfortable outside” down playing the upstairs high temp. I called VRBO, but they weren’t able to find us a location to move to.
The modem was broken, so couldn’t work remotely. Didn’t get replaced til mid-trip & we had to wait for the tech to fix it since they don’t have a property manager. The owner offered to let us check out 2 hours late, maybe this equals time lost.
I had to followup with the owner about the compensation mentioned previously for the broken AC & modem, and was ignored & refunded part of the cleaning fee. We didn’t get what we paid full price for (a fully functioning property) & the owner conveniently hid the broken amenities before check-in.
