About this property

Masseria PietraViva - Altamura

Set amid the picturesque landscape of the Alta Murgia National Park stands Masseria PietraViva, an ancient stone farmhouse dating back to the 1600s that has been renovated while retaining its rustic charm to welcome those seeking authenticity, tranquility, and a connection with nature. One of our farmhouse’s greatest strengths is its natural coolness, thanks to the stone that keeps the living room and bedrooms cool and comfortable even on the hottest days of July and August—a true “safe haven” from the high summer temperatures.
Nestled in a rural setting that’s still very much alive, this farmhouse is perfect for families, groups of friends, and lovers of sustainable tourism. It offers an authentic retreat away from the city, nestled in a rural landscape where time seems to pass more slowly, amid fields, silence, and open horizons.
The farmhouse is centred around a spacious stone living room of about 80 square metres with a fully equipped kitchen—the convivial heart of the home, naturally cool in summer and welcoming in every season. The rooms are simple, uncluttered, and in harmony with the surrounding landscape.
Guests can stay in three bedrooms:
The Timo Room, with a private entrance and bathroom, can accommodate up to 4 people;
The Asfodelo Room, bright and spacious, accommodates up to 4 people;
The Ferula Room, more intimate and cosy, is perfect for 3 people.
In total, the property can accommodate up to 11 people and features two bathrooms, a laundry area, and outdoor spaces in the front and back (the farmyard), perfect for relaxing, dining al fresco, or simply enjoying the tranquility of the countryside. The property also features a barbecue area, sun loungers, and shady trees.
The setting is that of the authentic rural Murgia: the farmhouse borders two active farms and is home to free-roaming, non-dangerous animals, such as cats and dogs, which help create a warm and genuine atmosphere.
Where we are:
We are located in the municipality of Altamura (BA), within the Natura 2000 network, in one of the most interesting areas of all of Puglia in terms of history, nature, and culture.
What to see nearby:
Altamura, the city of PDO bread and dinosaurs
Gravina in Puglia, with its fascinating aqueduct bridge
Matera (35 km), with its famous Sassi, an UNESCO World Heritage Site
Ruvo di Puglia (20 km), and the exquisite Jatta Museum
Trani, with its cathedral overlooking the sea and its lively (40 km)
Castel del Monte, Frederick II’s octagonal masterpiece (30 km)
Just a few minutes’ walk from the farmhouse are the archaeological remains of the Casette di Castigliolo and the former Jupiter missile base, a living reminder of the Cold War.
For a day at the beach, we recommend a trip to Molfetta, Giovinazzo, or Trani, all between 35 and 40 km away.
The surrounding area offers no shortage of traditional farm stays, wineries, horseback riding stables, and even a small airfield for those who wish to experience the Murgia from above.
