Town: Cracoe is an idyllic hamlet situated approximately five miles north of the market town of Skipton and around six miles south-west of Grassington. The village lies on the Way of the Roses, a coast-to-coast cycling route which opened in 2010 running between the seaside resort of Morecambe on the Irish Sea and Bridlington in East Yorkshire. Between Cracoe and Burnsall rests the Cracoe Reef Knolls, a collection of low lying limestone hills which contains the remnants of a pre-historic ocean that once covered the land. In nearby Grassington tourists can visit the Folk Museum which is housed in two miner’s cottages and features many exhibits and artefacts on village life through the ages. There are also regular events and gatherings in the town, including a festival running during the three Saturdays leading up to Christmas and a 1940s-themed weekend. A village festival including concerts, dances, theatre and comedy takes place for two weeks each June. Grassington is also home to crafts shops and places selling outdoor equipment, however for those looking for a more varied shopping experience take a journey to Skipton, which features a large high street with well-known stores and a much-loved market.
