There were multiple maintenance and cleanliness issues. We reached out to the host about the most significant ones, and when he did not respond, we contacted VRBO. The host reached out immediately after our communication with the platform, claiming (without coming to check) that nothing was wrong. The radiators did not turn on the first night, leaving the bedrooms cold and our kids shaking. The host said that we simply did not know how to turn them on. The next day they were functional during the daytime but turned off on their own at night, presumably by a master control. When presented with this issue, the owner again implied that we simply did not know how to turn them on. Coffee maker didn’t work, and he said we didn’t know how to use it. Biggest issue was with the front door, which he insisted was fine. He told us not to communicate with customer service because he was “here to help” but never came to verify the issues we reported. When we followed up with VRBO he reached out again to ask if we were looking for a fight and again told us not to talk to customer service. He continued to deny even the possibility of a problem, which was the most frustrating part. Customer service has full documentation of the most significant issues, including the health and safety concerns with the door, as the main handle of the only entrance to the property came out completely, a malfunction that left us vulnerable to breakins and/or being locked in to the unit.
