The Neighborhood:

The neighborhood of Brera is within walking distance of the apartment!

Begin your walk by taking two steps to Corso Garibaldi, a cheerful street and full of shops and really curious boutiques!

Continue crossing Piazza San Simpliciano where you can admire the splendid Basilica of San Simpliciano ... inside this church there are wonderful cloisters! Unfortunately, they are almost always closed except on special occasions (days of open courtyards) ... but since you are here close, you can try to see if you are lucky ... if they let you in, you will be amazed!

At the end of Corso Garibaldi you will find yourself in Via Mercato. On the right you can not miss a historic Milanese shop ... great! Maybe not too cheap, but really stocky if you need to disguise yourself! It's Torriani - Carnival Bottle ... it's also fun to just give a peek at the colorful display cases! If you are here at lunchtime, do not miss it on the left, a very spartan but very famous place here (and all over Milan) for the great pizza that spins free! It's the Pizzeria Sibilla, do not miss the opportunity!

Whether you are stopped or not, now turn the corner to the left ... here's one of the nicest sagras in the city.

You are in the beautiful Piazza del Carmine in front of the homonymous Parish of Santa Maria del Carmine. But do you know that in this church you can express a wish that focuses on a special special saint? It is called Sant'Espedito ... It is said to be experienced in fast graces and that he cares for the wishes of students and students ... so if you are concerned about a verdict or question or question ... well, come in and think well what to ask for!

Now abandon any noise and stumble on that oblique alley, Via Madonnina ... it's pedestrian and really delicious! You will not seem to be in Milan anymore. If you come here on the third Sunday of the month you can not miss the Brera market, one of the most characteristic markets in Milan ... maybe you will have closed shops but many stalls to make you company: wherever you will see jewelery, especially vintage, just like you were suddenly found in the Grand-grandmother's attic! In addition to vintage objects, many ethnic items, vases, statuettes and ornaments with which to decorate every corner of the house or make a gift with a vaguely Asian spirit.

From via Madonnina you will find, without realizing it, (turning right) in via Fiori Chiari ... you are going right in the center of the Brera district! The area is very characteristic although it has become a bit 'Milanese and very touristy. Outside taverns, both in summer and winter, showcase food in photographs and menus are also written in other languages ... here, it would be better not to stop eating because you could have bad surprises, not so much for the quality of the food or the cost !

You will come to a junction ... here you are! You are in the heart of the neighborhood!

Look around ... jarred look at how many old insignia! In fact, the area is very ancient and you will discover some of them still bearing the original name ... you will read "wines and liqueurs" and instead sell clothes !!! At the corner of a historic store, the company Crespi, a color store that still retains the ancient gold-plated sign! Right here in Brera Street (on the left of the company Crespi), there is a historic bar in Milan, Jamaica Bar, I've always found myself as artists, writers and people of the show a bit cramped ... if you want to have a coffee, take advantage of it to give look!

You are next to the Accademia di Brera / Pinacoteca di Brera if you would like to enter even in the courtyard ... it is a very nice building! If you enter the main entrance, you will be welcomed by the impressive bronze statue of Napoleon in the style of Mars pacificatore: an advance of the artistic magnificence of the masterpieces of Raffaello, Caravaggio, Andrea Mantegna, Giovanni Bellini, Fattori and Canaletto that awaits you in the exhibition halls. And just a little further, at the 16th, you can take a cultural break at the Gallery of Modern Art - The Castle together with Mom and Dad, who are probably great enthusiasts and will let you know the great Italian and foreign artists periodically on display with the their works.

From here you want to visit a wonderful place, perhaps a little overlooked, but still has a fascinating charm for the peculiarity of the setting in which you find ... the Botanical Garden of Brera. From the intersection, then, pull straight and you will see that via Fiori Chiari becomes Via Fiori Oscuri (what a funny thing!) ... almost at the end, on the right, a large door and the long arcades will lead you to the botanical garden ... a truly wonderful place which does not need to tell, should be visited in the spring, or when all the essences are in bloom! Always here, inside this building, we recommend another visit ... to the Brera Astronomical Museum.

When you leave here you will not be able to notice that old pharmacy just in front, always in Via Fiori Oscuri ... is one of the oldest pharmacies in the city. Also try to put your snout against the Brera Antique Pharmacy showcase ... look at it well, it's over 100 years old and still has wooden benches and bowls ... out there is also a plaque that attests that this pharmacy was a Certainly Carlo Erba, a renowned pharmacist who gave birth to the first Italian pharmaceuticals industry. You will only find it open during the week and Saturday morning!

Now you can decide what to do ... manoxmano proposes two alternatives: Do you want to eat something and go away your legs in the gardens? Or do you want to go back on your footsteps and still visit the neighborhood and some other curious little alleyways and shops? If you want to have lunch, go via Fiori Oscuri, go on to via Borgonuovo, also known as "The district of the nobles or skiers", a long way long Naviglio, but today you can admire an uninterrupted series of ancient mansions and noble dwellings with large courtyards and pleasant gardens, such as Valerio House at Civic 24. Right next door, for lunch, we point you to Borgo Nuovo 26, a bar where you can make a sandwich or eat a salad, a great value for money

When you want to leave here, turn left into Via dei Giardini, a very beautiful road that will take you to gardens that few people know ... Giardini Perego, an oasis of peace and tranquility where your little brothers they will have some fun with the wooden games they will find at their disposal! For those of you who still have the legs and curiosities to sell and want to continue the streets of Brera, Manoxmano suggests that you take the road on Brera Street and go to the center.

The street is no longer pedestrian but the traffic is very small ... so many special stores will attract your attention, but we want to show you one in particular ... it's called Rigadritto, a small and simply great stationery for those who like agendas, notebooks and block notes. You will feel like you are in the country of the balloons like Pinocchio, but do not worry ... no long noses and no pacifier ears! At this height of Via Brera, do not miss these narrow lanes on the right ... via Melone, via Ciovasso and via Ciovassino ... will make you go out in the street of the Orso where finally the deafening traffic of Milan will bring you back to reality!
