About this property
Highland Loch Retreat, Stunning Views, Wildlife & Cosy Open Fires
At Overscaig House, the world goes quiet in a way most people only dream about.
A winding Highland road leads you past moorland and mountains until the landscape suddenly opens and Loch Shin stretches out like a shifting silver mirror. This is where the pace slows, the air sharpens, and you feel your shoulders drop without realising.
Overscaig House sits right on the edge of the loch, a former Highland fishing hotel now transformed into a warm, spacious and deeply comforting retreat. Wildlife moves freely around the property: deer wander into the garden at dawn, buzzards drift overhead, and the light over the water changes by the hour. It feels wild, untouched and completely authentic yet inside, the house is calm, welcoming and full of comfort.
Step through the door and you’ll find open fires, soft lighting, generous sofas and rooms designed for slowing down. On stormy days, when the loch roars and the Highland wind rises,
Overscaig becomes a sanctuary: fires glowing, rooms warm, and the landscape wild outside while you stay tucked safely within.
There’s space here for everyone.
The cinema room is perfect for late-evening films, the snooker room creates slow, easy moments together, and every window frames a view of the loch or the hills and beautiful scenery. Bedrooms are cosy and peaceful, the kitchen well-equipped, and the house is perfect for families, couples, groups and anyone needing nature and stillness.
For anglers, Overscaig is a dream.
With direct access to Loch Shin and fishing rights on several nearby lochs, this area offers some of the most atmospheric wild trout fishing in the Highlands.
Take the fishing boat out onto open water and cast into quiet, untouched stretches surrounded by hills and sky. Loch Shin is known for its wild trout and its shifting moods serene at dawn, dramatic in the wind, golden at sunset.
Beyond the main loch, you can explore additional waters in the area, each with their own character. Evenings often end in true Highland style: tired arms, happy hearts and stories shared by the open fire while the weather moves outside.
If you want to experience the loch up close, bring your wetsuit, paddle-board or kayak.
Loch Shin offers long, peaceful stretches perfect for gentle paddling, exploring hidden bays or simply drifting across calm morning water. Wild swimming here is crisp, clean and invigorating an unforgettable way to start the day.
With the loch right beside the house, you can step into your adventure at your own pace, whether that’s a sunrise paddle, a quick dip, or an evening glide as the light fades over the hills.
Overscaig House is remote, private and beautifully peaceful.
There are no crowds, no traffic, no rush. Just you, the water, the hills, the wildlife and the quiet magic that seems to live here all year round.
Perfect for:
• Families wanting nature, space and slow days
• Couples seeking romance and fireside evenings
• Adventurers & photographers
• Highland explorers and NC500 travellers
• Anglers and paddleboarders
• Anyone needing a true escape
Overscaig isn’t just a place to stay.
It’s an experience wild outside, warm inside, unforgettable from the moment you arrive.
