El Portal is a lodging located in Castroserna de Arriba, a charming little village that is part of Prádena, in the province of Segovia. It is an hour’s drive from Madrid and 45 minutes from the capital of Segovia.
It is a recently renovated old farmhouse that has retained its thick stone and adobe walls, its old juniper and poplar beams, and its traditional Segovian roof.
The home has two floors with separate entrances from a courtyard featuring a porch. Both floors have a similar layout, with a kitchen open to the living-dining room, two bathrooms, and three rooms, two of which are bedrooms.
The kitchens are equipped with appliances (refrigerator, induction cooktop, range hood, oven, microwave, dishwasher, and washing machine; the latter is only on the ground floor). They also include a toaster, coffee maker, and a full set of kitchenware.
Each living room has a double sofa bed with an Italian-style pull-out mechanism. The bedrooms feature either a double bed or two 90-cm single beds.
The heating system uses geothermal energy with underfloor heating, providing a uniform and comfortable temperature throughout the property.
El Portal enjoys a prime location, situated between the church and the town square, next to the San Juan River and not far from the ruins of the Palace of the Marquises of Castroserna.
From the windows and balconies of the accommodation, you can see the lush ash trees and slender poplars along the riverbank, as well as the plum, apple, and majestic walnut trees in the surrounding orchards. The landscape is rounded out by nearby small hills dotted with junipers and cypresses, and, further in the distance, you can make out the silhouette of the Sierra de Guadarrama.
Both the interior of the house—comfortable and bright—and the exterior, with its grassy patio and covered entrance, are extremely welcoming spaces.
