About this property
Wainford Mill House is a spacious riverside property
Wainford Mill House is a spacious property on the River Waveney. Step out the back door onto a private footbridge, providing easy access to the boat. The surrounding area boasts nearly half an acre of riverside gardens with woodland, a wood-burning pizza oven, and excellent swimming spots. The bright, spacious rooms are suitable for large groups, with en-suite bathrooms and family bathrooms. Well-behaved and well-behaved pets are welcome.
The
house comprises six large bedrooms, spread over two floors. Five are king-size beds, and one is a room with three single beds. Three bedrooms are en-suite, and a separate shower and toilet are available on the first floor. The high-pressure baths and showers are supplied with plenty of hot water by our wood pellet boiler, which also powers the central heating. At the rear of the house is a large, well-equipped kitchen overlooking the river, complete with a cooker, fridge, toaster, kettle, and a utility room with a sink and washing machine.
The large riverside garden at the rear of the house is private and south-facing, accessed via a small footbridge.
A bit of history...the first recorded mention of a flour mill at Wainford was in 1444, but by the 1800s, the site was used for malting jley (for beer). Part of the working buildings was converted into a large house around 1850. Today, the Wainford malthouse remains operational, with a modern facility 200 meters away. A large white grain storage silo is located north of the mill (visible in some photos, now used as a café).
Guest access:
You'll have access to the garden, and you can hire our rowing boat to explore the beautiful River Waveney. Riding upstream is wonderful, weather permitting (the Waveney was named the first river for wild swimming in the Guardian newspaper). You can cook pizza in our outdoor wood-fired oven or simply relax in the garden on the picnic benches and garden chairs. There are trees for kids (and big kids) to climb.
The river outside the house is actually the border between Norfolk and Suffolk and is approximately 4 feet deep and usually flowing. However, it is NOT securely fenced, and children will require 100% adult supervision at all times when outdoors for safety. We have a small selection of buoyancy aids in various sizes available for loan.
Other important things:
Please note that during most seasons, we have a three-day minimum booking requirement due to the cost of maintaining the house each time. If you have any other questions, please contact us for more information!
