I am so pleased to share my second home with you here in beautiful Beulah Valley!!! This is not the average vacation rental as I do live here part of the year. This property has been part of Beulah's history for about 100 years, and for the last 50 years, my family has had the privilege of being it's caretaker. (A copy of 'From Mace's Hole To Beulah' is a wonderful historical background of Beulah, and is available for you to read during your stay. Page 150 is about my Grandfather and grandmother, Joe and Katherine Mehring.) While it is not the Ritz or the Hilton and it is not a brand new, perfectly appointed cabin, it is quite retro - antique in furnishings, decor, etc. Once again, comfortable and eclectic.
Also, we have a variety of wildlife for your enjoyment. The deer are always plentiful, and you will often see several sets of twins or triplets romping in the hayfield. They may seem tame, but never attempt to feed or touch any deer, just take a few photos from a safe distance and enjoy their beauty as a spectator. Bear are also common in the valley. Although it's not quite Yellow Stone park, we get our share. Do not leave garbage out: Do not leave picnic food unattended: Do not try to get closer for a better shot - trust me, just get a better camera, and stay back!. Lion are less frequently seen here in town, but the same rules apply as for the bear. Other critters may include skunks, raccoons, turkey, rabbits, fox, squirrels, bobcats, and unfortunately, a few mice (sorry, we do our best, but this is the country.)
Some of the amenities our cottage offers are ROKU TV, wireless internet (comtrend6956 - password on router in china cabinet), washer/dryer, horse pen, 3 minutes from Post Office, general store, two restaurants, coffee shop and antique shopping. A short 30 minute drive offers mountain lake fishing, golf, theatres, zoo, nature center, and museums, and only an hour away is the famous Royal Gorge Bridge or Bishop's castle! We are pet friendly with a $200 cleaning fee, $100 damage deposit, and current vaccination records. This is truly a one-of-a-kind vacation spot, and one of the best kept secrets in the beautiful mountains of colorado!
Guest access:
The driveway and yard are large and allow for plenty of parking. You are allowed to hike the fields, but no vehicles please, as I harvest the hay crop several times per year. I do keep the basement area locked inside and the outbuildings are for private storage only. Visitors are welcome to use the gas grill - extra propane is in the back porch closet or you can purchase at the General Store.
Guest interaction:
I have a sheet with local attractions, phone #'s, etc. inside the china hutch top drawer. Pueblo is about a 20 minute drive - Colorado City about the same - San Isabel Lake and Bishops Castle 30 minutes via 12 mile. (You can ask for directions at the local General Store.) I will email a full information packet when reservation is completed. :)
The nicest thing about Beulah, is the peace and quiet. When you stay with us at Mountain View Cottage, you will enjoy the peaceful country living experience, the quiet, the wildlife, the views, the 12 acre hay field, and the creek running through property.
I have recently added an outdoor camera for guest and property protection. :)
Other things to note:
At certain times during the summer, we have 'box elder bugs' - little black and orange bugs. They do not bite, but can be a little annoying as they crowd into warm areas during the evening. My water well is about 1/4 of a mile at the bottom of the field and runs off a pressure tank up to the house, therefore, the water pressure systematically fluctuates from a trickle to Niagra Falls - so be prepared! The house does not have air conditioning, however, open windows and two ceiling fans have always been quite adequate for me. Keep in mind that we are not the Mariott - Mountain View Cottage is a quaint, little old farm house property with lots of character and quirks!
Final Thoughts:
I know most folks mean well when they fill out the “what could the Host do better” portion, however, please keep in mind that I’m sharing my mountain home as is - I’m not a landlord, property manager, or hotel. And, while I know there is always room for improvement, (I try to do something each year such as a new pump, pressure tank and water system, new refrigerator, and new storm doors for 2021) I can only offer the property that I have as it is. Most of my guests love it that way, and return year after year, just as I do! We hope you will, too!

About the host
Hosted by Bonnie Rundell
I grew up in Beulah Valley on a cattle ranch, Silver Circle Ranch, just 3 miles up North Creek Road very near Mountain View Cottage. When my folks retired from ranching, they bought this property, 17 acres of Mountain Hay, farm house and barn. Over the years, small additions, remodeling, and upgrades have been made to the house. I am in residence two to three months out of the year and share it as a vacation rental when I am not here.
Why they chose this property
I inherited this property, and find such peace when I'm able to stay at Mountain View Cottage. Friends and family insisted folks would be thrilled for the opportunity to visit the Valley and relax at Mountain View Cottage just as it is. And, that is how I represent and rent it - just as it is. I love sharing my secret hide-away with other guests, and they all seem to love coming back each year as much as I do!
What makes this property unique
The views, wildlife, and quiet solitude are just a few of the wonderful attractions at the Cottage. One of my favorite places is the front porch - I call it my "office". I work, read, and rehearse from the comfort of a lawn chair while watching deer, hummingbirds, horses, and the mountains.
