About the host
Hosted by Cat
Cat and Phil looked for several years to buy a property in the mountains where they could share their love of nature and hillwalking, and finally found Heart of Glencoe Holidays in the perfect location of stunning Glencoe. There's something magical about the surrounding mountain scenery, spectacular in all its moods, and it fitted well with Cat's love of running Wellbeing Retreats and hill walking weekends. Its also a brilliant place to bring up two adventurous and wild young children!
Why they chose this property
Having stayed here as guests many times, Cat and Phil knew it was too good an opportunity to pass up when they saw that Heart of Glencoe was up for sale in 2023. At 6 months pregnant with their second child, it was quite a risk to take, but its one that has really paid off! Over time, Cat is developing her Wellbeing and mountain guiding offerings here in Glencoe, in between bringing up two lively and adventurous kids!
What makes this property unique
Heart of Glencoe Holidays offers a range of self-catering accommodation, situated in peace and quiet about 1.5 miles from the village. There's a world-famous pub less than 1 mile away too! There's lots of opportunity for wildlife spotting, with buzzards, eagles, owls, red squirrels and red deer commonly spotted. Several hill walks start right from the door, and we're close to famous sights such as a the film location for Hagrid's Hut in the Harry Potter films (less than 1 mile), the Lost Valley walk, and in driving distance to the Fort William, Oban and the Glenfinnan viaduct (also of Harry Potter fame.) Great mountain biking in the surrounding area, including the 11km Orbital route that goes right past the door. Plenty of other adventures to be had near by, with kayaking, paddle boarding, via ferrata, skiing, golf, disc golf and many more activities close by. For more sedate activities, there's the Glencoe Folk Museum, and the Glencoe Visitor's Centre, complete with traditional Turf House and highland cows - both places provide an interesting insight into life in Glencoe throughout history, including the famous Glencoe Massacre and Jacobite uprisings. There's also an Art Gallery, and lots of pubs, cafes and restaurants to explore in the village and surrounding area.
